Whiskey importation
Hello,
We have some whiskey overseas and I would like to import it into BC.
Does anyone know the EXACT tariff I would have to pay, I do not want to get to the customs desk and throw it out.
The Whiskey is Glenfiddich Special Distillery 18 years, and we had purchased it in Europe for the bargain price of 40 Euros - we will have the receipt to show CBSA as well.
Does anyone see any issues with this scenario? I don't want to lose the whiskey collection.
Thank you.

Canadian Alcohol Duty Calculator
Without a duty free allowance, tax is pretty much what you paid for it.

Thanks for the answer, Aviator. If duty is calculated off my PURCHASE price, that might not be as bad - so they use purchase, as opposed to market price.
... I will have to do the calculations, thanks again.

Re: Whiskey importation
How many bottles are you bringing in, and will you be bringing it with you or shipping it separately?
As far as I am aware, there is still a limit to how many bottles you can bring in with you over and above the duty-free limit ............... and it used to be that CC would confiscate the rest and often pour it down the drain.
I should phone Canada Customs and ask your questions. They were very helpful with me some years ago when I was looking at bringing some things form the UK (but not alcohol).
There will be other questions if you are shipping it separately.

The maximum you can import into BC above the Duty Free limit of 1.14 litres is
45.45 litres.
Read this link for various rates and other taxes imposed on spirits etc which also include Provincial Liquor fees per ounce

Re: Whiskey importation
Over the duty free limit you would have to pay the following where applicable
Duty you won't pay but there are excise taxes and duties, provincial liquor fees and of course the GST.
