Sorry if I haven't provided enough information. My estimated monthly rent expense in first few months would be CAD 800/ Month. Initially one bedroom aprartment is fine. By the way, do you have any estimate of moving expense within Toronto area. I would like to be in an area where I have easy access to bus service/subway/train. (I haven't use any of them in any point of my life, I am moving from California). So, I don't have any preference on which service to use. Again, both of us will be looking for job. Therefore, anyplace that is 30-40 minutes to and from the major workplaces would be convenient initially. One more silly question, i was told by a friend in Toronto that I don't need to bring my refrigerator as all the apartments are equipped with one. is this correct in all circumstances. Ho w about washer and dryer?
Forgive my unawareness; and I hope the above gives a little information regarding what I'm looking for.

The standard fare on the transit system is $2.50 cash or 10 rides for $20.
You need a job or jobs, anywhere will do until the place of work is established. www.viewit.ca list rentals.

Without knowing whether you will end up working downtown, or places like Missisagua, Brampton, etc etc its kind of hard to pin anywhere down as being 30-40 mins from work. The GTA residents will give you a better idea how long it takes to get from one side to the other in rush hour, but its more than 40 mins!
You can appreciate its like asking "where should I live in LA, only Im not sure If Ill be working in Burbank or Costa Mesa"

$800 might get you a bachelor in a good area of downtown Toronto, hydro, heat, everything should be included ………. If you want something larger for the same price the area isnt going to be that nice…… I wonder what you'd get for $800 in California, where in cali are you?
have you been to toronto before?

Also some landlords may not rent a one bed for three of you. I went to look at a studio once and they refused us because they said it was a one person apartment.
For $800 your looking at either scarborough (shivers) or etobicoke and Mississauga. you will be very hard stretched to find somewhere big enough for that rent in central toronto.
As someone else mentioned www.viewit.ca is a good site also this link to this website if you click on the unfurnished apartments in central toronto nearly all are located near the transit system subway (best way to get around)

Would you live in these areas?
besides which these areas are a far old hike on a bus to the subway system.

I wouldn't want to live in either of the other areas but wouldn't be concerned about walking around them during the day. They're hardly Compton.
I think you're much more conservative than most people in Toronto, it seems to me that you thought the Danforth a bit dodgy. That's generally considered yuppieville and I've been along there many times since wondering what, on earth, you find wrong with it. It's all relative, of course, where did you live in the UK?

Well we will have to agree to disagree freedom of speech and all that crap. I personally am not recommending any of the above mentioned areas.
I didnt say that pape was a bad area i said I thought it was smelly and overrated. but then i am lucky to live in a very nice area of Toronto and have probably become a little snobby.
Actaully come to think of it she would probably get what she is looking for in the pape area for the price too. LOL
im from Essex originally but i lived in lots of places why do you ask?
