Where have all the jobs gone?

Where have all the jobs gone?
Don't know you guys have been finding the job situ but it is dire here in Calgary at the mo.
Luckily for us OH has a job but I have been finding it very difficult to secure employment. Must have applied for over 50 jobs now and I am only applying for basic admin type jobs. My job in the UK was quite specialised within local government so I was not expecting anything of the same ilk but not to even get a admin job! Have even dumbed down my resume so as not to scare them off.
So anyone coming out on PR please be aware that it is as tough out here as in the UK.

Although, for a newcomer its always rougher as you have no Canadian track record for them to refer too....at least in the UK you are not up against that in addition to the tough economic times...

Re: Where have all the jobs gone?
Like Debbie from The Ross Family, I have been looking for work for 4 weeks now and like Debbie am finding it very difficult to even just get an interview; never mind canadian work experience! Considering that I too had a very specialised job, I wasn't expecting the same sort of position, but just getting an interview for a cashiers position seems nearly impossible over here! What doesn't help is that most companies will give preference to Canadian Citizen rather than us poor Immigrants
So, if you are coming over don't expect to get a job fast.

Welcome to the global recession. Its not a good time to go anywhere work wise. I know Canadians who are having a hard go of it right now. Lots of layoffs, construction is down.

Thank you, that's all you had to say. It was the " you generally end up knowing these things if you work in the industry " which sounded a little condescending.

Ask yourself if they are measuring in the same way, cos I remember MrsT did a lot to get the numbers down simply by only counting those claiming, as opposed to all those no longer able to claim...
Im pretty sure its comparing apples to oranges to some extent, as often is the case with international statistics.

I’d think that overall they’re quite comparable, Canada being hit a little harder because it has an auto industry that would show up within two decimal places
