Default Where to go in Quebec??

Hi

I am hoping to get a job in the province of Quebec. The choice of places are:
La Gaspésie (Matane or Saint Anne des Monts)
Beaupré
Beauport and Lac Beauport
La Beauce
Drummondville
Joliette
Berthierville
Gatineau
Papineauville

I'm into cycling and triathlons but like to socialise too, so choice of bars etc would be good too. Please help me choose and comment on these places. I have never been to Québec so have no idea!! According to my research they're all lovely places...

Thanks!
Sarah

also like to add that I am single too and want to meet people. Think that makes a difference compared to someone with a family!

It's assumed you speak, read and write fluent French?

Hi there,

I'm afraid I can't answer your question, sorry! However, just wanted to say that since you are fluent in French, you may want to check out this forum, in case you do not know of it yet.

You will have better answers there as practically everyone in it is going to Québec. However it's not as well moderated as the BE forum, and can be a bit all over the place with long rambling threads that get nowhere.

However if you asked your question there but in French, you'll definitely have more answers than here. Quite a few Quebecois are on that forum as well.

Have you applied for a CSQ yet?

Good luck with it all

I would say to complete your research you need to visit these places yourself. Otherwise, you haven't really done the appropriate research.

Papineauville is east of Gatineau and near Montebello. Is there a reason why you listed the places you did...are there branches of a company there for job reasons.

Here is the main street in Papineauville

At least you didn't say Thurso, QC...now there is an ugly place

Great - thanks for your advice everyone.
Unfortunately, visiting these places isn't an option - interview tomorrow! Also, wouldn;t be able to do it financially. It's for an academic year working as a language assistant through the British Council and they sent this list so we could give a preference. Great about the other forum - thanks Nerd!
Yes, in process of getting my CSQ - got all work certificate, got the C2 DALF and IELTS next weekend. If I get this job starting in September it'll be a great foot in the door.

Thanks again,
Sarah xxx

From everywhere you just mentioned on your list, i'd head for Gatineau, it has the beautiful park for cycling etc and close to Ottawa, just across the bridge for a bit more nightlife/culture etc.

Only my opinion though.

I haven't even heard of some of those places.

Gatineau is probably your best bet. It's a large town. The nightlife isn't great but you're literally next door to Ottawa and you'd like the Byward Market area (it's the bar district). Cycling is hugely popular around here and is very well catered-for. There are loads of clubs (you have to supply your own lurid Lycra).

Bear in mind that cycling is a summer activity. You wouldn't be doing it from October through May.

I agree Gatineau is probably your best bet if you want some kind of life.

As to the other places, I have heard of many of them but never been to any of them. most seem pretty remote.

Any chance of an opportunity in Montréal? That would be your best bet for socialising.
