Brits worldwide

The trend is now rising again: some 2,000 British citizens moved permanently away from the UK every week in 2005.

Almost one in 10 British citizens is living overseas, according to a study of people coming in and out of the UK.

Country by country we are number four on the hit parade. But as far as pensioners go we are number one. Does that mean we get a lot of old fogies like me?

Probably not anymore. There used to be an immigration class specifically for retirees, but its gone now, so its actually pretty hard for oldies to get in now. Also probably a reflection on the number of brits who came in the 50s and 60s when it was really easy, and who have now hit retirement age? Oz is relatively low in pensioners cos its probably only in the last 20 years or so that emmigrating down under has become a popular and fairly practical choice.

1962.

Yes indeed it was painless, no big redtape, no long waiting times.
