Re: Where Canadians go
I too found something similar today, and by my maths during the time period 2000-2004 on average 79,100 Canadians were leaving for the States Australia and Britain and only 12,300 Brits,Aussies and U.S were entering
Looks to me that if they don't sort something out soon their lovely country will be empty:rofl: Have to say I think the numbers were based on Permanent residents, not on us who just want a work permit but still, makes you wonder why it does take so long to get out there and how long they can sustain the loss. Think about the wild life they'll have a field day.....one empty country...one happy brown bear sat in an abandoned cottage smoking a pipe infront of the fire... wheres Darwin??? |

There are still lots of immigrants but mainly from Asia. |

Re: Where Canadians go
It found that, each year between 2000 and 2004, an average of about 68,900 Canadians moved south of the border. By contrast, an average of about 6,100 Americans obtained permanent resident status in Canada each year during the same period.
Pretty sloppy reporting and statistics IMO. My guess, of the 68,900 Canadians moving south each year, 68,000 left in November for Florida or Arizona, and came back the next March, either alive or in a box. This is contrasted to the 6,100 Americans gaining permanent residency in Canada, which is a different thing entirely. |

I think your guess would be wrong. There are a lot more snowbirds than that and I'm guessing they aren't counted as leaving, given that they have things like homes and bank accounts here.

I agree - In an ironic twist could these be expats who have gained Canadian citizenship and then decided after X amount of years to go home?

To die? The bulk of Brit expats in Canada have been here for decades and are now getting pretty old.

Could be. I know of one couple who have been here for over 25 years and want to retire at home.

Re: Where Canadians go
Do we know if the figures quoted are people for Canadians emigrating or just applying for visas in other countries and declaring themselves non-resident for a few years on a WHV? Can't figure it out from the language.
