I've seen it for myself, not to generalise but a lot of British kids these days are spoiled, arrogant and generally ignorant little bastards. The worst behaviour I've witnessed from kids in Toronto so far is conversing a little too loudly on a street car.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Canada or Canadian kids are perfect but I just can't see them most of them behaving like a lot of British teenagers do or exhibiting that level of greed and materialistic behaviour.

When you compare that to mass groups of teans arranging riots using instant messaging, putting through the window of their local Dixons and then nicking a new TV or terrorizing a local shop keeper, I guess the Canadian adolescent behaviour looks pretty tame by comparison.

Kids here may be more polite and well mannered to adults (to their face) but they are damn rude to each other and there is a lot of school bullying that goes on. There have been a few teen suicides recently in NS which is sad. My daughter knows quite a few people who carry knives and the cops are outside the school every lunch and end of because fights are quite frequent.

Re: Whats it like....
Remember the riots in Vancouver this past June? Many of those setting fires to cars and looting the shops were local teenagers... from affluent, well-to-do families. "Good kids" with good jobs, going to university, etc.
I'm not going anywhere with this other than to defy the "well I can't imagine this sort of behaviour happening in Canada" school of thought. |

No but you'll see the news in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or wherever you live and i'm pretty sure at some point they'll cover murder, sex crimes, violence, etc. The point is, if you let indirect crimes reported via the media distort your view of the area you live and give you a negative perception of it in the UK, then you will feel the same no matter where you live.
It must be a terrible way to live and i recommend you stop thinking too much into them. Yes you're right being worried about crime and caring about what happens to people is just an awful way to live....I shall endeavor to be indifferent like yourself! |
