Re: What was your dream?

Our dream was to come to Canada and work for ourselves. But because we were impatient we came on WP's

Have we achieved our dream? NO.

Are we close to achieving our dream? NO.

Will we ever have a go at our dream? UNLIKELY.

Do we (I) question why we moved? YES.

Are we happier here? PROBABLY NOT.

Are we in more debt than we would have been? DEFINITELY.

Luckily dreams change, I now dream of being a snowbird:rofl:

Re: What was your dream?

I believe we all trying to 'live the dream' in what ever capacity that may be and however that relates to each of us? By emmigrating we are all searching for something better arnt we? I guess my dream was:

•I wanted to live in a house in the country that we owned ourselves - achieved - always rented in UK, country or not and now live on 2 acres backing onto vast amounts of woodland
•I wanted less stress - achieved - you couldnt be stressed here if you tried!
•Slower pace of life - achieved - bored to death
•Engage in country pursuits - riding, skiing, 4x4ing, hunting, fishing - achieved but doing all of those things on your own is no fun whatsoever!
•Further my career working with horses and develop a horse business of some kind with my husband - not achieved!! The industry here in Nova Scotia will not support it.
•Have four seasons and snow in the winter- achieved and love it

So in a way I suppose I have and am living my dream???? I sacrificed my family and friends and my career for the above. That unfortunately was my mistake!! :(

I couldnt care less if I have to rent a house for the rest of my life and I have discovered (unbeknown to me) that I need stress and busyness in my life, I long for a faster pace of life! My new dream (haha) is to work with horses and to have a social life , I think most likely somewhere in the British countryside - tho I am hopeing to at least see if there are other available options in Canada, even if its only on a month to month basis!

i think it gives children a more open outlook on life and prospects. The whole living in a different country acheives this whether its Canada Australia or Timbuktu. I dont believe Canada gives children a better life or greater opportunites than the UK or anywhere esle.

A whim is "an odd or capricious notion or desire; a sudden or freakish fancy". Why would you find it odd or freakish to move to Canada?

Good for you! You don't hear people say that very often these days.

Whims are more likely to be productive though.

I suppose the measly 3-lettered word "job" wouldn't have a look in?

We pretty much came on a whim too. OH was offered a job completely out of the blue (he had an equally good one in the UK). Once we stopped laughing about how crazy the guy must be to think we would up sticks and move to another country, we came round to the 'why not?' point of view and less than 4 months later we were stepping off the plane. So no great dream and I think Novo is correct that whims are more productive - we had no expectations - so we weren't disappointed! and have made a good life here.
