Hi Simon
i am a qualified electrician with over 15 years experiance, i think you would class me as an industrial electrician. i have seen a few jobs advertised on the jobbank but im not having any joy.
I hope that something turns up when i get out there although i am prepared to travel at first to find work even the lower paid electrician jobs i would be happy to take.
Can you recommend any rental sites as im having trouble finding anything
In your opinion where would you recommend to live we like the thought of st thomas as we would prefer to be out of the city but not out in the sticks as i have two young kids to keep entertained. what about areas like strathroy, ingersol and sparta??.
cheers

Have you checked Cami out in Ingersol? Huge Automotive plant that seems to be picking up again.
Personally, i wouldn't live in any of those smaller towns you mentioned, have coached soccer here for the past 12 years and I find those places very 'cliquey".
Just my opinion...
There are lot's of nice areas on the outskirts of London, depending on your budget.
Cami is a 30 min drive from London, a lot of people drive every day there.
I work at ElectroMotive canada, we are not hiring right now but I will keep a look out for you.
Have you checked Monster for jobs?? Good site that many larger companies use.
I know when my parents came here 15 years ago, it was tough for them finding jobs. took about3-4 months but they got there by knocking on doors so to speak.
I have no info on rentals, there are a lot of places , houses, apartments etc to rent, but could not recommend anyone specifically.

Hi Simon
Thanks for the info regarding the job i will try ringing them this week and send them my resume. You never know i might get lucky but i wont hold my breath.
Regarding the housing situation its a tough job trying to get any rental properties in the areas that we want so we may have to take what's available to start with and we can then decide where we really want to be once we have lived out there for a while.
I know things are not going to be easy for us but with the help from people like your good self and others on this site it really helps.

We are still right at the start of our journey (waiting for the 120 day letter), but I think we would ideally like to head out in late spring (april-may time). This way we get as much of the good weather and daylight as possible to get sorted and settle in. I can imagine homesickness kicking in easier if you move during the middle of a dark winter. Not that there is anything wrong with winter, but I would need to save up for the skis and snowmobile first!

if you can, fit it around the kids. if you can't, fit it around the expiry date of your PR. As lets face it, no sense in letting it expire just for a more convenient date if you miss your first option!

i would strongly recommend summer simply due to the driving if nothing else. landing in winter, driving on the wrong side of the road, on the wrong side of the car, with dreadful roads, driving snow, not knowing where you are, no road markings or signs visible, can be a little daunting to say the least and you will have a lot of running around to do when you first get here.
