Hi there,
Me and my family want to move to calgary,im a qualified plumber but only for 3 years and as far we know that will be enough to get pr status but not to actually work there so im going to college next year to add to my business and im either going to do carpentry or bricklaying but want to know which one will more than likely get me work over there? im wanting to apply for calgary police once there but understand its hard to get in so want the best qualifications incase that doesnt happen.
Thanks

You could check out an online job search site to see what jobs might be more in demand than others, there are many out there but
Monster.ca is a good example

), but if your problem is that you don't have enough hours of work experience to land a job in plumbing, how does it make sense to start anew with a trade that you will have even less experience in?Would it not make more sense to continue with the plumbing thing so that by the time you make it out here you will have 4,5 or even 6 years of experience under your belt in that particular field....?
I presume you have looked into the Red Seal qualification you will need to undertake when you get here.....?

Maybe I'm being slow (entirely possible

However, if riccosuabe wants to apply to the police, and has time to study, then I think a degree in criminology or sociology might be a much better use of his time than learning another trade.

I agree, he will be able to work as a plumber, but will be considered as an apprentice until he has the hours and passed the exams.

If you come over as a student you will come on a student visa, and pay overseas student fees ($$$).
I'm not sure I am understanding quite how you think you may be qualified to apply for immigration, unless you have not really thought this through properly .... ?

anyway, as Batty says, you could try contacting Lethbridge College.

As i said earlier ive been a plumber for 3 years and you only need to have done it for 1 year to apply for sw visa but have to have 6 years experience to actually work??? But i was in the royal marines for a long time and in the armed response unit of the police for 3 years when i left due to cutbacks and went to work for the family business instead.so i qualify but cant legally work there by myself but am told there are ways round this such as journeyman route etc.i was asking about the police studies course as if there are colleges in canada that do it online would it not be best to try and do it with them as it would be a canadian recognised qualification?
