Canada customs doesn't really care about food items that are packaged, bring all you want. Don't try to do it in the US though as they are now ultra picky about any food brought in. You can't even mail packages with food item to the US now without getting a certificate from the USDA which nobody but a business would bother with!

Hi
I did the big move 2 weeks ago...so I don't know if it is too soon for me to comment...but here goes anyway.

We sold everything! more or less.
Just packed some clothing...little personal things...CD's and DVD's (and small player)...laptop...bisto gravy powder...Colman's mustard powder...teabags and the cat!!!

Tip...if you have lots of CD's/DVD's and want to make them a 3rd of the weight and size...ditch the packaging. It works well and you can get the little plastic slip cases.

I must say I was less up for this minimalistic approach to packing but my partner was sure it was the best thing for us to do!

Last week we went to Ikea. We couldn't get a van so we had to get a pick-up truck My boyfriend thought this was fantastic!

I loved picking out a whole new house!

Once we had strapped everything to the back it was 21:30 hrs. Someone pointed out to us that if you have stuff hanging out the end of your truck or off the sides you have to tie a red flag to it to warn other drivers! We only had one red flag type thing...my t-shirt A girl has to make some sacrifices! No pain no gain! and I wanted that stuff So...after a 4 hour drive back to Kamloops, with the stuff shaking on the back, I am now sat in my new place with my new stuff. Got some other stuff from pier 1 as a girl can have too much Ikea! My old furniture is a distant memory...my family and friends are not.

So in answer to the question...I am glad we didn't ship stuff but I wish we could move our family and friends out here! Oh nearly forgot...I am glad I spent lots of money on M&S underwear before I came as so far I have not seen anything here I like...take note ladies

We would love to say something about this but we could be BANNED for doing so as we now have an off topic area called the Maple Leaf where we can say what we want without offending anyone, so that's why Butch says you're teasing us

Butch, surely we can say something now Carly's brought up the topic herself ?
Or are we likely to be held in contempt ?

Is there anything we would have brought from the UK....Yup our Friends and some humour [/QUOTE]

Seconded plus some workplace p*** takes and banter wouldnt go amiss either

Seriously though, the first few weeks are mad, so anything that saves you a "must do" visit to the stores. Kids clothing, shoes, toys, spring to mind.
