Top reasons for me and OH from a Northern Ireland view point:
1) Got to be something else out there.
2) Better quality of life and cheaper way of living. Things on our wee island are a lot dearer than Mainland Britain, fuel, food, car insurance, transportation out of it. The Irish Sea is said to be one of the dearest/smallest stretches of water to cross in the world.
3) Current political situation. Good to get away from the orange/green politics.

Everyone keeps saying why emigrate, my OH says why not???
But for us the big drive is our chldren, the way the Uk has developed is scary, I do not want my children to grow up in this country. My parents and sister and brother in law are moving to France in the next two months. I would like to have gone with, but when OH and I sat down and looked at what France would offer us family/career/future, it just did not match Canada. Basically I want off this Island...

So...

1.Family ~ Quaity of life for the children.
2.Family ~ More opportuities for the children in the future.
3.Family ~ Better lifestyle for us all.

1) Because UK house prices have peaked & interest rates are rising
2) Because the exchange rate is good (although not the best it has been)
3) I can get a lower paid job that I enjoy and not have to worry about paying the mortgage as I will not have one (see point 1 & 2)

Lots of other reasons really but my main 3 are definitely financial, the UK property market has been good to us, if it weren't for this then I would not ever consider leaving.

1) Too much violence and poor karma here (just don't like this hell hole any more).
2) Better house
3) A better work-leisure balance than in the UK.

Personally I think the UK is a great place to live provided you live in a nice area and not some run down estate in SE London.
I live in Surrey, have a good job, 2 car family plus a motorbike, kids do well at School and generally life is good to us.
The thing I have recently noticed is that I never seem to have any savigs in the Bank anymore, things here *are* expensive and if I didn't have a mortgage I would be able to lead a very comfortable life and emigrating would not even cross my mind.
Without a mortgage in Canada I will be able to treat my family to an annual holiday and the occasional luxury.

All this talk of stabbings, yob culture, and immigrants flooding in I honestly do not see and I work in W.London!

It's not called Great Britain for nothing you know ;)

better environment
better education
cheaper to live
more property for your money
less crime
nicer people (sorry uk)
all round much better place

Re my earlier thread on a view point from Northern Ireland:

Our new parliament are today debating whether or not male members of The House should be allowed to debate on the floor while not wearing a suit jacket. Apparently this is not the done thing as the said MLA would not look respectable enough in shirt sleeves!! It has turned into a huge debate here.

God help us - who cares about health, water rates, house rates, education crime etc as long as they aren't too hot when they are debating. Wonder did they ever hear tell of air conditioning!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you've opened up a can of worms on this one.

Mine are:
1) 100% more friendlier, when a canadian says have good day they mean it!
2) Less PC and more democratic / Patriotic and proud of it.

I am starting to wonder. I look around my house and things are dissapearing into crates and boxes and i cannot find anything. My mother is acting like a spoilt brat, i am stressing at everybody, the kids are moaning cause their bikes are cleaned and cannot be used, we don't know what or even where we are eating the next two nights and we've spent loadsa money.:eek:

Forward wind to the weekend and it should all be bliss and then i'll remember why we are doing it. :rofl:
