Question What kind of Visa?

Hi all, my name is Jeff Gwinnett, i currently reside in Plymouth England. Im studying for a BSc in Sociology and Criminology at the University of Plymouth. Im contemplating taking a year out during my study as im really not sure whether i want to continue studying a subject that i have no real passion for! Im thinking about staying in Canada for that year with my Grandfather who lives just outside of Toronto, Missisauga (apologies for the spelling) i think. I haven't seen him for a long time and would love to meet up with him. Does anybody know what kind of Visa i will i need? Ive heard that i will only be granted a 6 month Visa with the option of extending it for a further 6 monhths. If anyone could provide me with some information i would be very grateful.
Thanks very much
Jeff

Hi Jeffy G...I was over in Canada for Christmas/New Year, and when I saw the immigration officer at Lester Pearson airport Toronto I was given a 6 month Visitors Visa which I can renew for a further 6month Temp Resident visa...I think you will find this is the best way to go for your stay, you just need to make sure you apply for your extension 6 weeks ahead of your original expiry, and if you decide to immigrate you can extend until decision on your application is made.
Hope this hels

I have not spent much time in Toronto long enough to have a look around tho and find it like any other big city...I usually go to Huron county....but I agree with what you have heard the people are great and very friendly wherever you go. I am sure you will like it there. Good Luck
