What job do you do now and what job do you want to do in Canada?
Well I thought it might be interesting reading if we all put down what jobs we do now and what jobs we want to do once in Canada.
As for me I am a Secretary/PA and would like to become a Wedding Consultant in Canada as well as running my own online Rosary business.
What about you'all?

I am an electronics/software test engineer in manufacturing and I hope to stay in a similar field. At least initially. I have a final interview for a job as Product engineer 2 days after I land (both telephone interviews have gone very well). In the long term, my husband and I would like to set up an aquarium shop specialising in marine live stock....but that's probably 10 years or so away.

Currently a solicitor but would love to run an indoor climbing/skatepark/martial arts centre. I was looking to set such an enterprise up over here, but lack of available space put paid to that !!

It’s funny how things work out once you take the “plunge. I was a Property Manager in the UK, working for non-profit housing. I assumed that was what I would continue doing once I landed here in Toronto. I had 20 years experience and was a qualified member of the Institute of Housing.
Turns out that all that counted for nothing once I got here because I had (wait for it)………no Canadian experience. Through acquaintances here, I got an entry level job in the Human Resources field. To cut a long story short, I am now Senior HR Manager for a large construction company, earning just a bout twice as much as I would as a Property Manager! Plus the bonus in that I don’t get sworn at or threatened by tenants – bliss!!
Just be open minded about what you want to do here, it may not work out exactly as you planned it, but with hard work and perseverance, it will work!
Good luck to all of you still waiting - I remember how that feels - but hang on in there!

I work in the oil and gas industry in an engineer position even though I am not a qualified engineer. My background is in geology. There is a world-wide shortage of skilled people in the industry so I don't think that I will have any problems getting similar work in Canada. If for some some reason I can't I have no doubt that I will be commuting out of Canada until something comes up.

I cant believe you couldnt find anywhere to set up your venture. It sounds like just the thing that people would flock to.
Just how much space would it require?
Couldnt it be built in a warehouse type space?
Never give up on such a brilliant idea - have you sought advice from a business link?

Computer programmer/sometimes team leader, but I've worked on a lot of low-budget movies in the UK, so I'm aiming to move into TV/movies/video production of some kind. I figure that I'll probably have to start at the bottom no matter what I do, so why not switch careers?

Also I think about 50% of Australians travel with vegemite. The nice people at Kraft even package it in tubes which are very travel-friendly.

I worked on implementing chip and PIN in the UK and I do the same thing here - it's what brought me here as there is a lack of knowledge in this area in the Canadian marketplace. Wasn't looking for it, it found me. And, bloody hell, am I glad it did! I was ready to go off and teach English in South America just to get out of UK, so when a job came up in my field in Toronto, I jumped at it.

Didn't want to bore people with the reasons why it didn't get off the ground here, we were still in the early days of planning it when we decided to leave the country.
If we were going to do it we wanted to do it properly, large free parking area, possible Wacky Warehouse type set up, somewhere where kids could go in all weathers (without breaking parents' budget) but could also be used by adults in evening. Wife is an aerobic instructor, I have the gym/martial art/climbing qualifications.
