What is a good Salary?

Re: What is a good Salary?
$150,000 is in the stratosphere. I would think that a new immigrant would have little chance of this unless they had very specialized, and in demand, skills.
The OP should look at scholarships that might be available to subsidize his(her?) kid's education, student loans, a second income, and expecting the older ones to take part-time work to help out with their education. This is all quite normal.
I have two sets of friends, both immigrants and both with three children, who are managing to put them through university on much less than $150,000 pa. One couple have a joint income of $80,000 and the other $100,000. It can be done and very much depends on your priorities in life.

I suspect that, on one income, someone with three children is not going to have much of a life in BC. I don't see three cars.

Student loans may depend on the province.
There are no student grants in Alberta, unlike when I went to University in England.
There are lots of bursaries and awards though, for sports, community and volunteer involvement, scholastic achievement etc. Most students do not even bother to apply.
RE: salaries.
In Alberta I believe that for a double income family $45,000 for the male and $26,000 for the female is about average.
Lifestyle depends a great deal on debt load. The less debt you carry, the more disposable income there is. On the other hand the fewer new "things" you have.

My daughter applied for about fifty bursaries. She got one, for $1200, with a whole bunch of conditions attached. The money is not as available as it was.

As a permanent position, I think you'd need to be more like CIO level to expect $150k....
