Would it be really rash of me to quit my job a year before I come to Canada just to see what it feels like.

Congrats, thats a wonderful feeling isnt it. Enjoy it.
I have to admit it was the best part for me on the UK side of this proceess, my boss was just so flabber-gasted as it had been the best kept secret. And, apparently, he has replaced me with 3 people!!!
