What about coronation chicken? It's got foreign origins, but obviously made better by british chefs. I quite like it, but does it pass the "Oinks Nan" test?

I had plaice for a treat once. That is obviously British as it said it was caught locally and were in a cafe in Margate.

I think you will find, young man, that that dish was invented for the coronation of our very own dear queen, which makes it very British indeed.

I think we're going off topic here. What I wanted to say to the OP was: don't worry about the food!

Good:
* low crime rate maybe depending on where you go.
* no/fewer chavs different people that are just annoying, but maybe less of them?
* scenery again, depends where you go
* job market not so great right now, but better than the UK perhaps
* larger homes bland and not nearly as much character as british houses
Bad:
* lack of culture ummmm? Canadian culture is for the most part British culture with some French thrown in and then it's own unique quarks gathered up from the indigenous and the hundreds of years its had to develop separate to the UK. Just as much culture in Canada as there is in the UK.
* humourlessness Canadians are hilarious and some of the funniest people around. The advantage is that we understand and appreciate both American humour and British humour. Some people have said we aren't dry and sarcastic, I don't know who they are hanging out with in Canada but it is definitively not my crowd. Since living in Australia I've had real problems as no one seems to get my dry, sarcastic Canadian humour.
* accents That one can't be helped, if you don't like the Canadian accents, not much you can do about it.
* lack of British foods/good foods You can get pretty much any kind of food you want in Canada. I'm sure there's plenty of 'british' food, not sure why you'd want it though
* lack of good television TV situation in Canada is pretty poor, it's pretty much just American TV. The CBC tries, but can't really compete.

There is some absolute crap on North American TV. I do miss the BBC and decent newspapers. There are some decent newspapers in North America (e.g. Washington Post) but I prefer the quality newspapers in the UK.
