Default What do you apply for first?

I'm confused!!!

I've been reading the Wiki about PNP's and the way i read it i understand that you apply for the PNP in this country and it usually takes about a year. At some stage before this you can apply for a TWP. The Wiki also says about taking the PNP to POE when landing.

I went on the Alberta website to look at their information on PNP's and as my husbands occupation falls under cat c it says you must have a permenant work offer from an Alberta employer and that you are working for them at the moment.

I am obviously reading something wrong, can anyone enlighten me???

Is the first stage for us the fact that we need to find employment first before we apply for anything?

Is it worth going to the Canadian expo in November?

Thanks.

Yes you need to get a job before you apply for PNP, I got a job offer in NS and living in the U.K. I have applied for PNP. I have been nominated and have applied for a TWP. I can then work whilst I wait for my PR.

Do you have enough points to apply for PR now and in the meantime look for work, and then if successful you can apply for WP and move over whilst waiting on your PR?

Would this be possible?

hi
I have also come across the liverpool emigrate show in oct ,I thought it may be of some interest ! I do agree though after joining this forum the people on here are very helpful and informative .. we put our application in jan 07 under the skilled workers route .. time scale given 3 and a half to 4 yrs , all seems forever so going to the show in oct may help us to keep going . We have a trip planned to canad in nov to help also

Yes, we were thinking of Liverpool although Coventry is nearer to us but that falls on a weekend when mu husband is nights which is difficult.

I am starting to feel like we won't get anywhere in this but at the same time i hate giving up on anything. It seems to me that there are plenty of jobs out there it's just getting there that's the problem.

Oh well, just have to keep plodding on and see what happens.

Thanks for all replies.

Hey JoolsGod, chin up! It's the earliest of early days as yet. Perhaps this is the first sign of you guys entering the emigrate to Canada emotional rollercoaster that we have all either ridden or are still being hurled around on!

I see you are looking at the Alberta PNP as an option. You said Mr JoolsGod was a cat "C" on there but I'm not seeing that. Unless you have subsequently found more appropriate codes, on the National Occupational Classification, we found...
7265 Welder: http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC-CNP/app/...de=7265&code=7
and
0621 Retail Trade Manager: http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC-CNP/app/...de=0621&code=0

On the NOC Matrix...
http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC-CNP/docs...er_English.pdf
7265 Welder comes under Skill Level B and
0621 Retail Manager comes under Level 0, Management Occupations.

As I understand it, the Alberta PNP...
http://www.albertacanada.com/immigra...edworkers.html
...will consider those in Levels O, A & B, so, on that score, you are both OK and on the face of it, there seems no reason why either of you could not be the first one to batter down the door of a potential employer and get the magical job offer.

Also, one of the earlier posters asked you if you thought you could manage the 67 points to pass the Skilled Worker test and you thought not. I'm wondering if this is why you seem to have moved away from going down the "TWP and later upgrade to PR" route. PM me on this if you prefer. I'm no expert but we can go over your points together but the one question jumping out at me is whether you are including the extra points you would get for being over here on a TWP that your employer has said would become a permanent position if you had PR status. I'll be corrected by others if I'm wrong but I believe that throws another 10 points your way. Would that make the difference?

Like I say, please PM me if you prefer to discuss offline.

However, on the face of things, both "Alberta PNP" and "TWP & later upgrade to PR" options seem entirely open to you and entirely open to Mr JoolsGod (keep meaning to ask you, are we talking as in Jools Holland here?) As far as the job hunt is concerned, it is sooooooooooooo early in the game that I wouldn't even contemplate beginning to think about being dispirited yet!

Kind regards,

Your personal BE stalker (or so it must seem!)

Eamonn
