Re: What car

Hondas are illegal in Canada so i'm afraid you're out of luck there. Ford, Dodge, GMC, and Mini Metros are the only cars you'll find in the Country due to strict laws.

That said, i'd advise you to google cars for sale or dealers in and around the areas you're looking to live ;)

One of the best resources (if not the best) is the Lemon Aid Guide, gives user experiences, resale value and cost of ownership. It is independent and a thorn in the side of auto makers.

http://www.kijiji.ca/# is good is you want cheap and you know what your doing. Honda Accords have weak automatics. The engines go forever as long as the oil is change correctly.

Toyota Camrys are bullet proof.

Don't be afraid of Impala or Buick with the 3.8 they cheap and can be alright. Luck of the draw on them.

If you want to go smaller. Corolla Echo's are good. Domestics. 2003-2005 Cav's only ones with Ecotec engines or Colbarts avoid first years of production. Ford Focas after mid 2003 are OK.

No question it is an excellent resource I believe you can buy it in the UK through Amazon.co.uk
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lemon-Aid-Ca...2267995&sr=8-2

Make sure this is the Canadian version though.

Also, when you buy a used car in Canada, it is buyer beware, even from a dealer. None of this 3 month warranty stuff. A reputable dealer may honour problems, but don't count on it. Certified used from franchised dealers are different. They will try and sell you a warranty and lots of other add ons.

Beware of signing a contract at a dealer to negotiate a price. Some will ask you to make an offer that they will take to the sales manager. If the manager accepts this it is binding and you are committed. They don't need to do this. Dealers also try and put an 'administration' fee which is often printed on the contract, I always refuse to pay this. If buying from a dealer, read the purchase contract carefully and see what add ons they are trying to put on to you. I have found I give them a bottom line price I am prepared to pay, plus taxes with no additional charges considered.
