What car
Hello peeps,
Would dearly love to have some idea of what makes of car they have in BC and surrounding areas...also is there anyone that has experienced vandalism because of the make of the car...we love hondas and in certain countries they're prone to vandalism.... also is there a road tax in Canada..thanking you in advance xxElainexx |
Re: What car
hi they have ford here in canada also look at dodge just look on the internet you dont have road tax but you have registration here its about $70 for a year and you get a date sticker you put on your lisence plate its like road tax
|
Re: What car
Hondas are illegal in Canada so i'm afraid you're out of luck there. Ford, Dodge, GMC, and Mini Metros are the only cars you'll find in the Country due to strict laws.
That said, i'd advise you to google cars for sale or dealers in and around the areas you're looking to live ;) |

Re: What car
One of the best resources (if not the best) is the Lemon Aid Guide, gives user experiences, resale value and cost of ownership. It is independent and a thorn in the side of auto makers.

Thank you shall def look to that link... xxElainexx http://www.kijiji.ca/# is good is you want cheap and you know what your doing. Honda Accords have weak automatics. The engines go forever as long as the oil is change correctly. http://www.canadiandriver.com/2007/0...-2003-2007.htm Toyota Camrys are bullet proof. http://www.canadiandriver.com/2005/1...-2002-2005.htm Don't be afraid of Impala or Buick with the 3.8 they cheap and can be alright. Luck of the draw on them. http://www.canadiandriver.com/2005/1...-2000-2005.htm http://www.canadiandriver.com/2006/0...-2000-2005.htm If you want to go smaller. Corolla Echo's are good. Domestics. 2003-2005 Cav's only ones with Ecotec engines or Colbarts avoid first years of production. Ford Focas after mid 2003 are OK. |

Hi
Thank you shall def look to that link... xxElainexx http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lemon-Aid-Ca...2267995&sr=8-2 Make sure this is the Canadian version though. Also, when you buy a used car in Canada, it is buyer beware, even from a dealer. None of this 3 month warranty stuff. A reputable dealer may honour problems, but don't count on it. Certified used from franchised dealers are different. They will try and sell you a warranty and lots of other add ons. Beware of signing a contract at a dealer to negotiate a price. Some will ask you to make an offer that they will take to the sales manager. If the manager accepts this it is binding and you are committed. They don't need to do this. Dealers also try and put an 'administration' fee which is often printed on the contract, I always refuse to pay this. If buying from a dealer, read the purchase contract carefully and see what add ons they are trying to put on to you. I have found I give them a bottom line price I am prepared to pay, plus taxes with no additional charges considered. |

Automatics are the most widely sold, however all of ours are standard (manual). Not everything is available as manual. What always made me laugh was GM lists the price of vehicles, plus extra for auto transmission, however they don't sell it in standard so you have to have auto.

If you can drive a manual or stick shift as they called it here. You can save a lot money on buying a used car. ;) |

That's more a head thing. Automatics are find for city commutes and fact might be safer no proof really. I just prefer manuals. I find them better all round. especially in BC for those hilly roads and for over taking. :)

Re: What car
I think you get some sort of rebate if you buy a new car with a manual gear box?

Hmm, I probably should have done some research before I posted, but I remember when I was looking to buy a new car that the mini dealer in Yaletown said the government, not sure which one, would give a rebate on a manual as they were more fuel efficient. Might have just been bollox though.

yes the was a rebate program for some cars but not all. I believe that's stop now. it was 1000 bucks rebate. Now is cash for clunkers. Or cash only deals. You can brand new accent for 9999.00 for instants.

Re: What car
I can definitely agree that BC cars are expensive.
2 weeks ago I got a 1999 Toyota Corolla (in good condition, low mileage) for $5,250 (incl tax, 8 month warranty). Very expensive I know, but in comparison to others I'd looked at it didn't seem a too bad deal. From what I've heard / seen Toyota's definitely do hold their price. Older early 90's Tercels I've seen go for $2,500+! I had a 1998 Toyota Avensis in the UK which had more extras then the car I just got which only fetched £450 when I left. I was annoyed but you can't really compare. They have one market there, this is totally different that's one thing you have to stop thinking about. Whatever you go for - makes sure it's BCAA inspected for 'peace of mind' if nothing else. Erm can't think of much else, hope I helped in someway (and If I'm repeating anything else others have said sorry, I was too lazy to read all the other replies) |
