That's really helpful to know, thanks very much! :) I imagined us having to bake a very long cake and smuggle the swords in through them. Mmmm... cake....

Re: what can't we take?
Like most we read all the advice not to bring 240v stuff and we did indeed get rid off the larger stuff such as TV/Washer etc.
We kept a lot of small stuff and most of it works eg either on 120 via an adaptor or just change over the plugs Lights/lamps- work, but UK bulb is dim so put in a Canadian one (screw type only here) Computers etc - all seem to work, either flip the dual voltage switch or install a new Power unit for about $60. Most stuff with a transformer works even if it says it is only 240v on the item. Transformers a re simple and step down current, so going from 240 to 9 v is no harder than 120 to 9v! Like said, our house and many candaian ones have 220/240v outlets. Uk stuff we brought such as a little TV with in built video for the kids UK cartoons works fine. I brought a few "power strips" from UK and changed it to a 240 canadian plug, then you can just plug the UK ones into the strip. just check you don't overload the system.. Probably paranoia, but likewise i tend to not leave them unattended.... just in case.... but probably not a problem. Summary - if you have the space and its valuable/costly to replace as opposed to selling for a few quid in the UK - bring it and try it out, via an adaptor, 240 outlet, plug change etc. PS if your house burns down don't blame me!!!! |
