Hello everyone
I'm trying to sort out allowed things that can go on goods to follow list and have searched BB and found this........
"please note that UNLESS FUMIGATED, a used mattress is prohibited from importation."
I guess this is from the CBSA site but I cant seem to find the page of what you can and cannot bring in with you. ....I'm really worried now because I'm afraid of not being able to import my socks
If anything needs fumigating they do
..........but I'm not sure if that would be cruel because I do think they are living organisms
Seriously....can anybody post a webpage from the CBSA that explains the do's and dont's of importing to Canada.
Thanks in advance

Hi
Don't know if I'm missing something, but I've had a look at the links, and I can't see if there are issues with importing mattresses - and does that include other bedlinen like duvets and pillows?
Thanks

We just shipped in a bed and bedlinen and everything was okay. Never bothered to fumigate anything, not even OHs half of the bed

Here's the mattress info from CBSA - http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/E/pub/cm/.../d9-1-7-e.html
We didn't fumigate and honestly and openly listed bed/bedding/mattress. I don't think they're that bothered. I heard the customs officer's side of the phonecall to the <whatever they're called department> and they weren't interested in opening it for bugs or beasties either.
I guess that might change if you have cars/garden equipment etc - we didn't.
Edit: that mattress link exempts mattresses under Tariff 123435 etc etc. I can't be bothered googling them all, but the first one shows bequests so I'm guess the others are settlers/returning residents/seasonal residents etc. Check yourself though to be sure.

Thanks! We had new mattresses recently, and I don't know how to fumigate them, nor do I want to leave them behind.

I know bed sizes are different.
Want to keep relatively new beds for guests -buying new sheets etc to take to go with it.
But thanks for the tip anyway!
