Best of luck to you and your family. Just don't keep everything crossed for too long - could get quite painful.

Was talking to my mother in Ireland today. She always asks if we are happy. For us happiness depended on a sucessful move here. For that I believe that three things were needed. Good planning, luck and the right attitude. We were very lucky getting here. We planned well and finally our attitides have change.

Before, we both worked our backsides off to have a large house, two large cars, private schools blah blah blah. We had decided that coming to Canada meant that our attitudes had to change if we were going to be happy. Not that everything is rosie but I think that we appreciate more when strangers are helpful and kind. We did have a bad thing happen to us since we arrived (lost a cat to a coyote) but God alive if that is the worse thing that happens to us in the next year then I will be grateful.

Anyway, on the side of the glass being half empty, there is a mound of ironing waiting for me. On the more optimistic side, a nice bottle of wine is also waiting.

Regards
Alro
Some luck, lots of planning and a positive attitude are indeed the ticket.

The mountains totally surrounding us in all directions (we live where the Rocky Mountains, the Monashee Mountains and the Cariboo Mountain ranges converge.) The peace and quiet (at least from traffic - we seem to get more people calling round than we ever did in the UK...) The wildlife (although it can be a bit too close for comfort sometimes - we've just had to change where we walk the dog each morning because we spotted yet another cougar ) The affordable property (see my avatar - that (on 8 acres) cost less than our 3 bed semi in Chester!) FAR less stress. Much happier kids (and parents) with more friends already, after only 2 years. Really welcoming and helpful neighbours.

Only downside is probably the thing that makes the area how we love it - it's remote, which usually makes the unavoidable trips to the city overnight events, rather than a quick "nipping to the shops".

Add in a dash of, getting out and doing things rather than expecting them to come to you.

Join clubs, meet people, volunteer your time for a local cause, these will all speed up your integration to the community and help you to build that social network that can leave you feeling isolated if it isn't present.

Good Luck
