Hi Kev, You did mention the rugby club, so you can't be all bad. I live in Bragg Creek, about 40mins west of Calgary. Originally from Gloucesterhire, been here for about 10 years, English wife, 3 Canadian kids. There are quite a few Brits in Bragg creek and a few of us get down the pub(bar) on a friday night for a few beers. You should come along and join us, I'm sure we could pass on lots of useful info, especially after the fourth pitcher. Take a boo at Braggcreek.ca it tells you about the hamlet and surrounding area, which is a pretty special place. Anyhow drop me a line if you are interested in getting together, [email protected]. Cheers |

Kev. Lee says Josh (pastylover) is a great kid!! We are in the 'thinking about it' stage if you mean we are spending every waking minute 'thinking about it'! We got our AOR back in Feb 05, the same month that we went on our factfinding trip to Vancouver and Winnipeg. I have secured a job offer while in Winnipeg, although it is still in the delicate stage of HRDC approval, once approved we (wife, 2 boys, 11 and 9) are prepared to go out on a temporary visa, and if we can wangle it get our PR application transferred to a Provincial Nominee Program- also dubbed the fastrack! I really hope the health issues you mention can be overcome, hell, there is enough to worry about on top of that! At least Calgary seems to be one area of massive growth and your trade (chippy?) is a sought after one. I think you have chose your province well. I mentioned 'Canada plans' at work, purely to get the reference like they ask for in the application- however, although I got it, and they were 'ok' it did become a career cul de sac- I have since left- today in fact! I strongly recommend a job search while you are in Calgary. Find potential employers now and chuck out hundreds of emails, telling them of your dates in Calgary available to meet them, that is what I did and it worked, I am a Maintenance Sparks, by the way. All the best Darren |

All the best Darren Hi Darren, It seems in certain ways that you're way ahead of us in the process, even though we got our case No 4 months before you, back in October '04. I must say, i like the sound of "the fast-track" (Provincial Nominee Programme), though i must admit, i didn't really research that option, as it didn't seem applicable to our situation. Did i miss something? You'll have to tell me what it entails when we hopefully hook-up. And good-on-ya for securing a job offer already. Hopefully i'll be doing the same when we go over - i've arranged to see 5 potential employers whilst there. Mind you, seeing as we're going down the Permanent Residency Visa path, even if i am offered employment, they'll have to wait for me for about a year!!!!! We decided not to go down the works visa route, 'cos i was told that if you lose employment (for whatever reason) within the first 3 years, you could face deportment, due to the fact that it takes 3 years to qualify for citizenship once residing there - whereas once you've recieved your PR Visa, that's that. You can reside there permanently, even if you don't have a job to go to, and even if you choose not to apply for citizenship after you qualify. Man, we've REALLY gotta swap notes!! Speak to you soon, Kev. |

I just answered the last posting under my boys' username (pastylover)! I'm gonna have to tell him to log-out properly when he's finished on the forum! Sorry about the confusion. Kev. |

Johnie,
Just sent you an email about us hopefully hooking up for a beer while we're over. If you read this before checking your inbox, get back to me. Kev. |
