We're coming to Calgary!!!

Hi everyone.

Once again, it's been way way too long since i was last on the forum, so many apologies for possibly appearing so unsociable - believe me, it's not intentional, it's just that time just whizzes by!

Anyway, the story so far for those who may know my situation, or at least recognise the name;-
We were issued with our Case Number for our PR Visa application back in October last year, and were told that there's about a 12 to 14 month wait between being given the Case No. and having the medicals. This means that we've probably still got a wait of at least 6 months before we get to that stage. And even then, we may still get refused on medical grounds - though i can only hope (and ask The Big Guy Upstairs) that the powers that be don't deem any of us as "an excessive drain" on the Canadian recources.

Anyway, i'm prattling on a bit, so i'll cut to the chase.......
We're coming over for a fortnight in May - arriving on the Wed 11th, and flying back to U.K. on the Wed 25th. So basically, if any of you Calgarians or Calgarian-Brits wanna try hooking up (whilst we're not busy seeing the sights, or i'm not busy checking out potential work scenarios), please let me know.

Anyway, that's all for now, so as always, take care y'all,

Kev.

Hi Kev, nice to see you in here once more :D . Hope you have a super holiday and if you could just drop a parcel over Swift Current on the flight over I'd appreciate a couple of pasties, a couple of spaniel bowels and a pint of anything warm  .

Hi Smokey,

Lovely to hear from you - it's been a while.

Speaking of dropping off a parcel, my wife (Linda) makes fantastic humongous pasties - but if she makes 'em, i'll be eating 'em! Sorry.
And as for including a warm pint - haven't you heard, they do "extra-cold" Carlsberg now!!

But yes, we certainly hope and expect to have a great time - no doubt i'll tell you all how it went on my return.

Take care,

Kev.

Hi Kev

Small world!
I've never met you but I have heard your name mentioned at our Tae Kwon Do class, my son and I train under Chris Taylor and Danny Broderick!?
Nice to see a fellow Cornishman seeking a better life in Canada, even though you will be a loss to the martial arts schene here!

Cheers

Darren

Hi Darren,

Nice to hear from a fellow St.Austolian! (Is that a word??)

Make sure to say hi to Chris for me - and tell him i'm still waiting for him to give the Grappling/BJJ a go up at Polkyth on Mondays. And of course, you're more than welcome too - remember, you can be the best stand-up fighter in the World, but if you end up on the deck.... you're stuffed!! That's why, for a majority of my 31 years of training, and even though i got my 4th Dan in Karate, i've always been a cross-trainer. (No, i said cross-trainer - NOT a cross-dresser!!)

Also, if you do pop up on a monday, we can have a quick beer in the bar after, and talk of all things Canadian!!

Take care mate,

Kev.

Hi again Darren,

I don't know when you'll get to read this, but i thought it may pay us to hook-up at some point, and swap notes on the emmigration subject. It just seems such a coincidence that a fellow martial-artist from the very same town, is thinking about doing the same as us!

To re'iterate what i said in my earlier reply, we're at Polkyth on Mondays (apart from bank-hols), 7 til 9 and we usually grab a quick beer after. But we're also down at the Rugby Club on Thursdays (in the new-ish squash court), 7.30 til 9. Feel free to pop along to either, whether you wanna actually join in, or whether you just wanna chat about our common goal.

Anyway, take care mate, and perhaps we'll meet up soon.

Kev.

Will definitely try to hook up. This is so surreal, Lee Curtis (who I work with at Westpharma) was actually talking about his friend who was emmigrating to Calgary. The penny dropped today! I think its a Cornwall thing where everyone knows each other indirectly....or indreckly!

Cheers

Hi again Darren,

Yep, i dare say it was me who Lee was referring to! Mind you, as i keep having to remind myself, it ain't cut-&-dry 'til we pass those medicals, and get those visa's! Remember, they can disallow you on medical grounds, and i've got a mild heart condition (even though i'm probably training harder now than i was 20 years ago!) and my boy's got cerebal-palsy, and is in a wheelchair. Guess we've just gotta wait, hope and pray.

I'm obviously keeping this subject pretty quiet at work - don't want them knowing i'm hoping and planning to emmigrate, and risk causing them to think about getting rid of me for spite!

Have you started the process yet, or are you just at the "thinking about it" stage?

Kev.
