Default well we are here

i have now surfaced after arriving 10 days ago , we are in Newmarket Ontario , and we have settled in better than i thought.
we arrived at toronto airport with our work visa's on sat 30th sept at 8.00pm. i was armed with everything under the sun , my lawyer told me what we needed and i had a folder that seemed to weigh more than the luggage. we went to immigration , straight up to a desk , the young lady took our work permit letters and said take a seat. after 10 mins she came through and said she had given us 2 years as 1 was not enough and that was it , i questioned wether she needed proof of funds , birth certificates etc , she said no and off we went. i had already done the goods to follow , 4 pages of general bits and had duplicated them , put the cost in $$ and totalled it. the Guy at the desk was impressed , read through it , stamped it and said good luck. 3/4 hour later we were collecting our car and on our way.
i have now been offered 2 jobs , one from the real estate lady and one where my husband works , the boys are trying out for the soccer club . so all in all things are good.

the only down side and i feel guilty about , and i think if things were not going well or i felt really down ( i know that may come ) was that i phoned home this week to find my mum has been in hospital and had a lump removed and has type 2 aggressive cancer , which was a bolt from the blue, she said nothing as it would have made it harder to leave. she is possitive and starts chemo next week, and has a body scan . but deep down the guilt is there, but as she says , we all must carry on with our lives and take each step. i know i must remain positive as everyone is really settled ,.

10 days is not long for the reality to hit home , but hubby started work straight away on the monday , as we both felt we did not want it to feel like a holiday. My eldest son has been here a month , as he came out earlier and has really made some great friends.

i have just found everyone helpful , banks , sin office , health etc and i am not looking through rose coloured glasses , i am not that sort of person , i look for the worst and fault everything , i came out here with many doubts and i have been pleasantly supprised. i just hope it all works for us.

i had never been to Canada before arriving but had researched and researched , till i was overloaded , reading this site , and have used all info i found on here , so thanks guys , everyones experiences are different , we were on the plane with a family of 5 from the same area , kids were 18, 16,14 and they had nowhere to stay , no jobs and $50,000 , the eldest boy was going to college , and as we know it has cost us $11,000 to get him enrolled and $2000 on books and tools . So i say good luck to them.

thank you for all the advice , pro's and con's and i will keep reading and adding my bits .

Welcome, and sorry to hear about your mum. That's not the sort of news you want when you've just emigrated.

You need to change your profile, by the way. I don't think Canada has a south coast.

Good luck to you, and to your mum. Thats a tough break.

Canada does too have a south coast....the north shore of Lakes Ontario and Erie!

Well done and good luck!

Sorry to hear about your mum. She certainly sounds like a positive lady. Good luck to her!

Remember, you haven't flown to the other side of the world (one advantage of moving to Canada). There are daily flights from Toronto to UK if you want to pop back for a wee visit.

Wanted to add my best wishes.............to yourselves and to your brave Mum.
Takes a lot of courage for her to let you guys go, knowing what she knew.
Toronto is only a quick(ish) hop across the Ocean, if you need to visit.
