As you know we came home last year when my OH didnt settle. Ive never really settled back home and ive tried really hard. But all the violence and street crimes here are getting worse. No one hardly goes out at night and when you go for a drink the bars are full of 16-20 year olds looking for trouble.Theres nothing to do at weekends and the kids hang around the streets as theres no clubs or parks or anything for them anymore.
The company OH worked for want him back and we think its great that they would give us a second chance, dont get many of them in this life!!
I miss the life we had in Calgary and the friends we made. I still want to leave for the same reasons as before, to give the kids a better chance in life and to live a better life style. I cant earn here what i was earning in Calgary.
Atleast this time we know the areas and where to eat, shop, have hair cut etc.
The biggest thing is the upheavel for the kids, they miss calgary, Aaron keeps asking me when we,re going home, thinks we are on holiday here
But Chloe would have to start high school and make friends again, shes 13 this year, a more awkward age.
So we,re in 2 minds, do we stay put and get on with it or do we take the second chance and go for it?
It is hard, and we have saved some money anyway, it could be done.
Shipping the furniture again tho arrggghhh!!!! Was a mare the last time, anyone want to share a container haha?
Let me know what you think, im sure you all will ;), im relying on it.
Speak soon ( Get the barbi ready Morwenna )
Mandi xxxx

i hope you're collecting air miles

Hello Mandy,

There was clearly a desire to move to Canada in the first place but having gone through the process the experience did not match up to the dream resulting in your return to the UK. My concern would be that Canada has not changed since you returned and unless the issues that prevented you all from settling the first time are resolved a second move would have the same result. A costly exercise both financially and emotionally.

I think your decision needs to be based on one pivotal question, is Canada where you want to live or do you just not want to live in the UK? I empathise with your feelings about the UK as I am sure do many on the forum but returning to a previously unmanageable situation just to escape would not make sense to me. The world is a large place and your husband's trade will be in demand in many other countries. If escape is the driving force then perhaps you should cast your net wider and consider alternative locations.

I really hope you find what you are looking for whether it is in Canada, the UK or elsewhere as the longer you are unsettled the more unsettled and unhappy you will all be as a family. Best wishes and good luck.

John

Hi There Mandi,

It's difficult to offer anyone advice or guidance when they already know exactly what they are leaving and exactly what they would be going to - only you know which one makes you and your family happiest.

Personally speaking - as a family who also live in Newcastle,UK and are in the process of gearing up for the big move to Canada - GO FOR IT!!!!!!! With a capital 'G'. We have 2 lovely daughters, 4 & 7 (funny names for girls!!LOL) and are going there to offer them a real chance in life. Now what I do not want to do, by any stretch of the imagination, is completely condemn my hometown, as I think it is the UK in general. The sheer lack of respect amongst people is incredible - and that doesn't only apply to kids, I'm talking about adults as well!!

I was in Canada last week for a few interviews and the friendliness and common decency stands out - I mean REALLY stands out.

On a lighter note, if you do go and want to share a container, just get a PM over to me!!:rofl:

Wow....mixed responses, but all totaly true.
Thanks Mo, its your BBQ thats making me want to come back ;)
Darren has had a job offer, but hes still undecided. Mainly because i started my own business and its starting to do well. It dosent bother me, id walk away tomorrow with no regrets. It took alot to up and leave to Calgary the last time as id never been. It was a hard decision, but once i was there and we found a home and jobs, i really settled.
The people went out there way for you, the kids were doing great at school and playing with friends that were much more respectful to there parents ( unlike here)
We did things as a family at weekends and had started making plans and for the future.
When we went home, it broke my heart and my daughters. But we had to do what my Husband and son wanted at the time,it was a Very hasty decision that we all now regret.
So enough of the sob story, im not going to push anyone....for now anyway
I,ll let them all stew on it and be really sure they want to go, then i,ll just leave them and go myself haha.
Darrens got all the paperwork for his exam and is doing a few mocks next weeks.
Speak to you all soon
Mandi xx:thumbsup:
PS..I,ll totaly take you all up on the container though ;)

Thanks everyone. Darren accepted the job, we are in the process of applying for an LMO again
Kids are looking forward to it, have told my mum but havent told anyone else yet untill we have exact dates etc.
Darrens company have arranged a study programme for him this time to help him pass his test, thats a big relief to him.
Its going to take a few months to get the paper work in place and sort money out this side. We have to decide wether to ship the furniture over again, which is always the biggest cost!!
Alot to think about and alot to organise. I know we sound mad but i really think we are doing the right thing this time.
We came home for all the wrong reasons but are going back for all the right ones, im sure about that.
Will let you all know how we get on, thanks for all the help and warm wishes...
