Default Weekend Breaks Crossing the Border

Hi guys,

I have my COPR so I need to leave Canada and come back, now I know I can just cross the border and come back but I feel like I might aswell make a weekend of it.

I'm in the GTA at the moment so don't want to drive to far, just looking for suggestions I don't fancy shopping in Buffalo, and I've heard there isn't much else there and its not the nicest of cities. So I'm just wondering what other options I have?

Thanks,

Sackets Harbor near Watertown. Cross both ways at the Thousand Islands or just drive around the lake out at Niagara and back at Thousand Islands

Niagara Falls NY is a dump. I've only been there once. That was enough.

Agreed - it's economically depressed. Although visiting the view of the falls from that side gives a different perspective.

While most Canadians huddle close to the border, along most of the length of the border on the US side most Americans consider the border region to be a remotely northern, inhospitable wasteland.

Lake Placid is pretty and has bars and restaurants and whatnot but what do I know? I like Buffalo for a weekend.

Not sure if that was a "tongue in cheek" suggestion or not. I was in downtown Detroit just over 2 weeks ago. It was the first time for many years that I had done anything there other than cross the border. There's actually some neat and interesting things to do in Detroit. It can be an eerie place even in some areas of downtown where you'll see empty buildings and streets. An interesting place though with an interesting history.

Pretty much sums up the border on the western end here...

Lots of package places and gas stations in otherwise small towns that have more of those then they would otherwise....

If driving then you just apply for the I94 waiver and pay the $6. If you have a valid ESTA you can show them that but will still need to pay the $6 fee it just makes issuing the I94 easier as they now have your details.
What used to be a 10 minute process is now a 30 minute process if no ESTA.

Cross near Kingston and go to Philly, Syracuse, Boston or New York.
