Well I thought I'd give a little run down of how our first week and a half have gone.... We arrived on the 23rd December and it all went very smoothly at Immigration - we were just getting work permits, and a residents permit for my mother.
We have been staying with family over the Christmas and New Year period, however we have now managed to rent a lovely new house which is in a great location and ticks all our boxes.
We have been on kijiji.ca constantly, which is how we found the house, our car, dishwasher, vacuum and washer/dryer. We have been reluctant to spend a lot of money on things as we don't know if we will be staying beyond a year so will be making do until a decision is made. I would highly recommend kijiji though, it's been invaluable, and we've met some lovely people in the process too.
After hearing a few scare stories about car insurance we managed to get a relatively good deal $700 for both of us - with the assurance that we will produce a letter in the next two weeks from our insurance company in the UK detailing No Claims Bonus. We thought that was pretty reasonable.
Well that's all for now, it has only been 11 days after all - and we've even managed to squeeze in some fun stuff too!!
Thanks for all the advice that helped get us here!

We had quotes from Kirkhams in Lethbridge and Thomsens in Medicine Hat and there was very little between them. Hope that helps.

Yes thanks it shows that it does not have to be as much as what companies in the big cities are quoting as I am sure that your insurance covers you for driving anywhere in Alberta.
Thanks again and
Congratulations
