Well there is the definite "nip" in the air. only a few trees have red leaves not really very many. It is cooler than normal but is suppose to warm up.

Or......once they learn how to shovel properly (my dad always told me there was a knack to shovelling snow in Winnipeg....to me snow was snow)....you let them do it to show them responsibility, hard work and how proud they'll be of the job they did. (Man when I think back how stupid my brother, sister and I were at that line - worked every time).
I would never change places and have snow 8 months of the year - a little bit at xmas is enough for me.

I'm a Hertforshire boy, too. I was brought up in Hitchin, though I don't live there now.
My wife said that one has to walk like a penguin - with one's feet sticking out - to ensure not falling over in the snow and ice. Is that right, or is she trying to make me look silly...?

I think you may very silly like that Rhodes!! I lived in Welwyn Garden City from age of 10 to 16, parents were there 20 years now in Hatfield, have a sister still in WGC. And it thought you were a born and bred Londoner.

You could try walking that way, but you'll probably fall flat on your back ... over here in Calgary we solve the problem by attaching big chunky snowchains to our foorwear or by wearing by spiked wooden overclogs ....
