Washing machines
Can anyone recommend a washing machine that I can get in Canada that actually cleans clothes? Our old one is on the way out, and our experience of buying stuff in North America hasn't been good in the past...

Re: Washing machines
I have a front load Whirlpool...its very good, no different from my UK one really. I have 3 kids and wash every day. I bought ex display at one of the many 'sales' in Sears (when are there not sales at Sears? )

Re: Washing machines
Or if not Miele, another European brand front loader with temperature settings. N.Am front loaders don't have temperature settings other than, cold, warm and hot. Useless.

Thanks! yes I think I'll go for a front loader again, they do seem better than the top loading thingies. I will look at Meile thanks!

I had a Miele in the UK. I looked at them here, as they sell them at Trail....it was going to be $2,500!

A good breakdown of who makes what over here.
I bought on those massive front loaders that they have here (Maytag eg Whirlpool), and it has worked well so far (by now it's an older model but the one with the commercial components MHWE300VWH).

We have a Kenmore front loader - Kenmore is Whirlpool as is Kitchen Aide I believe. Six years on, no problems as she runs around the house touching wood so far and the clothes are clean and you can do so many at once

Re: Washing machines
The older Kenmore front loaders were whirlpool and made in Germany the newer ones are LG and made in Korea.

Re: Washing machines
We have an LG frontloader, which replaced a Kenmore toploader for water efficiency reasons. It cleans clothes no problem. Mainly on cold. The need for the $2500 Miele or Maytag is snobbery. (either European or North American, take your pick.)

We bought the cheapest pairing available when we bought a house load of stuff at Leons. Roper. Top loader.
Family of four. Used every couple of days. Works great. No shrinkage, everything comes up clean. No funny noises.

Re: Washing machines
We had to buy new when we moved into our house almost three years ago and bought Samsung - front loader. My washer and dryer get used most days and I've never had any problems whatsoever.
When we were looking, even the salesman in Sears said front loaders were better. In his words "You Europeans have had it right for years and we're only just realising that over here!"

I had a GE Energy Efficient front loader. It worked, clothes came out clean, but it took over a hour to wash anything. Hopeless.
Samsung is a very poor purchase in Ontario, there's no provision for servicing them so if anything goes wrong you've to bin it. I'd say Samsung is false economy anywhere due to the quality of materials and construction but I only know definitively that the brand is crap in Ontario.
