You don't need to be a PR of Canada to get Red Seal.

Yes they have. http://gazette.gc.ca/rp-pr/p1/2012/2.../reg2-eng.html

But as that doesn't open until May and is likely to fill almost instantly, I'd think the Skilled Trade program may be better for you.

I have spoken to a company that is reapplying for their LMO. I have filled in my Alberta training form that they sent me. I have more hours and months worked that is required on the form. In the section of job description I take it this needs to nearly be word for word like the NOC description?

Right, if I get this LMO, do I then need to apply for a skilled workers visa or just apply for PR straight away? This is what I'm unsure of.

Skilled Worker *is* PR. If you applied for a Skilled Worker visa (which you could do as soon as you are in Canada working on a TWP), then at the end of that process you are a Permanent Resident of Canada. Once you get the LMO, it's a Temp Work Permit you'll be applying for with it, not PR.

Does that clarify it? Have a look at the Wiki if you're not sure on anything.

Good luck with the LMO.

Yes definitely fingers croosed. You can once you are reciept of the positive LMO fle number, fly to Canada and apply for your twp at the border. Does your o/h get an open work permit - I think she might as your job is skilled. If so she can get this at the border when you fly in too!

As C/O says you can then apply for PR (not sure if its straight away or something like 12 months after you've been here you'd need to check cos I don't know) but either way you could be here a dam sight sooner than you first think

Hey Christmasoompa

Thanks for the links and info - we still score on FSW which is a huge relief. I hear what you are saying re the Skilled Trades path, but can you give me more info re the Red Seal? ITA BC told me that we needed a BC address and a BC id card such as Drivers Licence to apply (sorry, not PR). Is that info incorrect? It was last year, have they updated it since?

Cheers for any info - I think I've spent the last 18 months on the wrong forums!

Loads of forum members have managed it, not sure how but have a hunt and hopefully you should find the answer on previous threads - or start your own thread with the specific question in the title so that those that have done it will see it and respond. I've no idea how you'd go about doing it, but it's definitely possible (and would have to be, otherwise how would anybody qualify for the Skilled Trades visa?!?).

As above, plenty of forum members have managed it with no problems, as evidenced by threads such as this one - http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=776512 Not sure how they've done it mind..........

HTH.

Hi, and welcome to BE.

As a truck driver, you'll probably need a job offer and LMO, so the best thing to do is start with the Wiki (follow the link in my signature). You may not get much choice in where to live as most truck driver jobs seem to be in certain provinces - but wherever you do end up getting one, make sure you have a route to Permanent Residency should you want to stay longer term (many provinces wouldn't allow you to stay as a trucker).

Also have a look at the truck drivers forum, and the CIC website.

And if you've got any further questions it would be better if you could start your own thread, as your questions are not related to the original ones asked on this thread.

Good luck.

Siouxie's already pointed you in the right direction, but for future ref, have a look at the FAQ which will tell you how to do stuff like that - http://britishexpats.com/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_faq
