Hello, theskid, and welcome to the BE forum.

As Silverdragon102 said, the Wiki is the One Stop Shop for newcomers to the forum, but I'll give you a few more specifics.

Read Renting-Canada.

Yes, quite so. There is more information in the Wiki on Skilled Trades.

I suggest you read the Wiki article called Quick Job Hunting Instructions-Canada.

Also check out Construction Job Centre.

and is it the right place to go if i want a change of lifestyle
That's a tough question to answer. Canada is a vast country with six time zones. It's quicker to fly from London to Moscow than it is to fly from Toronto to Calgary. But I'll try to give you answers.

In some ways, Vancouver's lifestyle is similar to that of the UK. The reason is that Vancouver has a relatively mild climate with rainy winters. In this respect, Vancouver is different from the rest of Canada, which has a four-season climate.

But there are other aspects of Vancouver that are different from the UK. There are mountains and skiing nearby, for example.

I personally like Vancouver very much.

Depending on what sort of lifestyle you like, you also might enjoy Kamloops and the Okanagan Valley (around Kelowna). This area is further into the interior, and has a four-season climate with snow (albeit the winters still are relatively mild by Canadian standards).

But then, who knows? You might enjoy Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan or Alberta. If you were fluent in French, you might enjoy Quebec.

It may help you to read these Wiki articles:
Regions of Canada

Where to live in Canada

Real Life Accounts-Canada - Members of this forum share their experiences of living in various parts of Canada.

also my partner is a civil servant does she have any work oppertunities over there?
Just this morning I wrote a new Wiki article called Civil Service-Canada.

Hope that helps.
