Default Visiting Kelowna

Hi all

We are on our second recce to Canada 28 Aug - 10 Sept and although based in Vancouver plan on travelling further inland to check out Kelowna.

Plan on spending maybe 3 or 4 days there and would be grateful for any advice on helping us make the most of our time.

Especially keen to bike and kayak and have two boys aged 9 and 10.

Thanks

Hi,

For cycling I have had the cycling/hikes on the myra canyon recommended
http://www.myratrestles.com/getting-there.php

One of my friends was there earlier this year and said the trestles have been restored and the ride was spectacular. Will be very hot though in the summer.

Warmly,

Frank

Wink Re: Visiting Kelowna

We love Kelowna, off to visit again in a couple of weeks and spent the summers of 2006 & 2007 there too. So much to do on the water, Okanagan Lake is gorgeous, plenty to do around the beautiful beaches, kayaking & cycling are top. City Park is fantastic, great for the kids, plenty of evening entertainment, although I'm not sure how much goes into September. I'm told September is the best month as the 'tourists' dispell (we've never really noticed it to be too busy, only a great atmosphere) and the weather is fabulous.

Try the local news website www.castanet.net for upcoming events.

Also there's a new swimming centre which looks fab if you're into that sort of thing, called the H20 centre, the website is something like H20Kelowna.com but if you google it you'll find it.

Try and stay on the 'east side (rather than the Westside) as despite the new bridge reducing the traffic you'll spend your time travelling back & forth anyway.

I'm sure you'll love it, we've travelled extensively through BC and a bit of Alberta and found it to be perfect in many ways, we were in no doubt that it was where we wanted to settle. It helped that Big White ski resort (www.bigwhite.com) is just up the road - only the best family skiing in the world!

Hopefully we'll be over there by the Fall, permanently, just waiting for the response from our medicals. Good luck & enjoy - happy to help if you have any specific questions, not often I can help on here so explicitly!

Jules

Peachland is on the Westside, which means you go over the William Bennett Bridge and just continue South on Highway 97 for about 30-45mins turn left on Princeton Ave, this will take you to the beachfront. The campsite/RV site is really nice and as someone else mentioned it is opposite the lake.
