Default Visiting Canada Soon.

Hello All,

I am visiting Canada in early June for 2 weeks and am after ideas on things to do, I'll be arriving in Vancouver with my wife & 12 yr old son, we hope to have a few days of interviews for my wife, then spend some time around Vancouver & BC before driving over to Calgary for 5-6 days.

I hope to see Stanley Park, Capilanos suspension bridge, Banff, Bow River. Lake Louise/Moraine, Royal Tyrell Musuem@drumheller.

Really looking forward to the trip.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I wrote a page called Inside Banff National Park : Planning a Summer Trip for TripAdvisor's Wiki section.

It's aimed at the traveller who wants to go from Vancouver to the Canadian Rockies or vice versa. It has links to other TA Wiki pages on topics like sample itineraries, what to pack for the quirky mountain weather, national park entry fees, the logistics of departing from Calgary Airport, and many other topics.

I think it's fair to say that, if you go through that checklist, you won't let anything important slip through the cracks.

Edited to add this observation. From the casual way in which you refer to driving over to Calgary for 5 - 6 days, I don't get the impression that you understand the distance from Vancouver to Calgary, how much there is to see in the Rockies, and how long it takes. I hope the TripAdvisor article will help you to get a more realistic picture of what's involved.

If you're approaching the Rockies and Calgary as a tourist, rather than doing a recce of Calgary with a view to living here, I think you should focus on the mountains rather than on Calgary. That said, the Royal Tyrrell Museum would be an extremely worthwhile side trip, all the more so because you'll be travelling with a 12-year-old.

Hi,
While your wife is having interviews, take your son to the science museum in Vancouver. Also recommend going up Grouse Mountain. Awesome views, shows to see too and you can do it as a twofer with the Capilano Suspension Bridge.

Take in the beaches too.

Good luck to your wife with the job interviews.

Warmly,

Frank

Thanks Judy, Thanks Frank.

Your guide will most certainly help. I may be a little casual of the distance involved, as such, once the Interviews are done, we do not have a definitive itineary hence the casual approach, One of the prospective employers has asked us to look at several locations for work, one being Calgary.

Many Thanks for you responses.

If it is just a quick look at Calgary itself, maybe fly but the drive is interesting if quite long. You can find one-way rental cars easily and if you fly Zoom can go into Vancouver and out of Calgary. (Probably other carrier do this too but I haven't looked them up recently.)

Just to confirm that Canadian Affair also do this - you just book the two legs sepearately. Someone I know is flying Manchester Van and then coming back Calgary to Manchester.

Yep done the same. Canadian Affair flying from Manchester to Vancouver, Pick up Car then return from Calgary to Manchester dropping off car at Calgary.
Reasonably priced too.

Victoria and Whistler are worth visiting if time permits.
Enjoy your visit to BC and AB.
