Hi,
Part 2 of the reccie trip to Oakville. Once we have finished with the "look-around", we're going to finish up with a drive from Oakville to Algonquin. We'll be staying in Huntsville. Having never driven in Canada I'm hoping the sat-nav will do a good job !
Any advice for the 3 days that we have in Algonquin/Huntsville ?
Thanks eveyone.
Ryan

Hey Ryan,
The drive is fine to be honest once you get out on the 400 around Vaughan its a straight drive up , I always struggle to get the mrs out of the Vaughan outlet centre and then always stop at Canada's wonderland a great day out.
Been on a few holidays up in cottage country , Bracebridge and Huntsville way and its stunning in with only 3 days i'd probably say go round the muskoka lakes and georgian bay rather than go into Algonquin by the time you pitch your tent it will be time to come home again but its a true wilderness scary noises at night
Im just a wee bit jealous
Anyway have a ball

The drive up is really easy once your on the 400 - keep going north!
I've stayed at the Delta Grandview (http://www.deltahotels.com/hotels/hotels.php?hotelId=49) - we were out of season when we were there, so managed to get a good deal.
If you're looking to camp in the park itself, you will need to make reservations - there are strict numbers allowed overnight in the park. If you are thinking of canoeing, there are outfitters near the park when you can rent everything you need (including tents, etc) and will arrange drop-off of the canoes - http://www.algonquinoutfitters.com/. They also seem to have day trips on their websites - so I would highly recommend canoeing if you can.
We did an organised canoe trip through Call of the Wild (http://www.callofthewild.ca/) - it was great, but having done it once, I would definitely organise my own next time through the Outfitters (which is where Call of the Wild picked up all their equipment).
If you're more into hiking, when you get to the Park entrance, there is a tourist centre - you can pick up a map and there are trails just off the main highway through. Not as good as an OS map though!

Hi. When are you doing your reccie? Last time we were up in Algonquin was July 07 and it got really hot - car registered 40c!! Anywho we are going up in June and expect there to be alot of mossies around so as others have said get some good repellent! Yes the drive is really easy and relaxing once you are on Highway 11. We did it many times before we lived here and just used a map as it is not a complicated trip. Enjoy
