Visa card woes while visiting UK
#1
Hi
I did all the due diligence at my Scotiabank branch to make sure my visa card would work in the UK. And it doesn't.
I used the call collect and they say everything is fine at their end.
Anyone else experienced problems back home?
....I've a mind to take my debt elsewhere!!

No problems with RBC & Presidents choice visa cards last couple of years in UK, France & Spain
However, first visit back to the UK a few years ago - my UK bank card was scammed in Next & 1500GBPs taken - in Next can you believe

Almost home after a 10 day trip to Norway, UK & Spain. My CIBC Aeroplan VISA has been accepted in all these places without a hitch. I have a Scotia VISA as well & can't recall any problems using that either.

It's not just Canadian issued Visa cards that may have a problem. I was in the UK and held a Visa card issued in Luxembourg. All part of the EU. I used it successfully in a UK superstore.. then on the way out in the hire car thought I'd throw some superstore branded fuel in the tank.
Card refused! When I asked the girlie why that might be, she said 'Oh! It looks like one of those foreign cards!. We sometimes have problems accepting European cards!' I reminded her that the UK is in Europe, but she didn't quite get it!
I wandered back over to the superstore, drew cash out using the same card and paid in cash! During my absence I left the car at the pump to penalise their sales in what little way I could for the inconvenience they caused me.
That having been said I will contact Scotiabank and voice my concern based on what I have read here, in case they see any potential issues with me using my Visa in Europe (not just UK).

Never had a problem with my TD Visa card anywhere in the world. My TD Interac card also works for cash withdrawals in the vast majority of banking machines (look for the symbol).
I have had an issue recently trying to use the Visa for online shopping in France, but that got resolved.

The body shop UK won't let me order stuff online to be delivered to a UK address using my Canadian credit card
yet they'll let you put a canadian billing address in
Go figure
