This is one of my pregnancy paranoias. Nothing is indicating that this might even happen, but I just can't stop thinking about it.
What would happen if my partner got made redundant? He's on a TWP. I have a SOWP. I understand that he won't be able to work for anyone else, I won't be able to continue working, our health insurance will stop, right? But we'd be able to stay here as visitors up to 6 months?
I assume we'd have to pay for all the doctor's visits out of our own pocket?

He would be able to apply for jobs, but obviously not able to start working until/unless he had a new TWP (and possibly LMO).
I believe you would be able to stay until your partners original work permit expires.

You could continue to work with your SOWP (as long as you are able) until it expires.

Anyway, what about the medical stuff? At the moment, he's paying the MSP (BC) contributions for both of us.
Thank you.

You will continue to be covered for the term of the visa as long as you keep paying the premiums.

Thank you for the quick response Siouxie. I don't even know why I'm thinking about this - there must be some pregnancy hormone that is making me think about bad things.

I'm really sorry but I am not sure on the answer to this. Is he paying through the company he works for, or has he a self administered account?
You can read quite a lot of info on their website:
http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/msp/infoben/faqas.html#whp
I did read that there is assistance for families that can no longer afford the premiums; I also read that if on a working holiday visa that you must work for 18 hours a week to qualify - but I couldn't find anything about the situation you are proposing!
Hopefully someone with more knowledge of this can assist.
(Let's hope it doesn't happen anyway - and yes, pregnancy can make you think all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff!)

Edited to say, I just saw you had the response you need.

or get married then the sex stops anyway no need to give it up.You can stay until the expiry date of any work permit issued. The holder of the SOWP can carry on working the other would need another TWP and possibly LMO dependent on if job is LMO exempt.

Will give your first suggestion some thought.
That's this paranoia sorted. Thank you everyone.

Being pregnant might be effecting your sleep, and I know lack of sleep can definitely make me more on edge and paranoid. Is your PR processing?

We haven't applied yet. Still not sure what to do really, but at the moment we're 90% sure that we want to apply.
