I’ll be moving to BC in a little under a month.
I’ve been driving in the UK for well over 35 years and have a full no claims bonus.
Does anybody know what do I need to be able to take out car insurance in Canada please?
thanks
Matt

Only thing you should do is make sure you’re sitting down before you get the price.

Personally I’d bring proof of no claims as well just in case you move to another province down the line or want to buy additional coverage.

In BC liability insurance has to be taken with ICBC (Govt Agency), min is $200,000. You can buy up to $5m in coverage.
Optional insurance, comp and collision can be taken (in most cases) through ICBC, or a private insurer.
Proof of no claims discount is not accepted, what you need is uninterrupted proof of claims history. If there is a break in the history, this is as far back as they will go.
Any proof of claims history has to be from the underwriter, not an insurance broker.
ICBC are not easy to deal with for anything.

Is that still the case? I thought they'd done away with that requirement and the website says nothing from insurance providers is required. https://www.icbc.com/driver-licensin...ing-experience

I applied for my driving record from the DVLA before I left - not sure I actually needed it but it was very cheap and straightforward to get so did no harm to have it. I also had to get a letter from my insurance company in a *prescribed wording* about my no claims bonus. This was 10 years ago so things may have changed.
