Vancouver is not looking good, would like hear from any recently landed brits. Been looking on a yahoo website, a lot of drugs violence etc. Just thinking that toronto area, is no scenic looking feeling like it would be more like london having to make my mind up in a few days time. Calgary is out rent too expensive any assistance would be a great value.

And you think the crime rate is going to be significantly lower in Toronto than it is in Vancouver?

If you are planning to set up an illegal drug business you might find the market saturated and competitive practices a bit ...er... final. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Just an aside.... I have a colleague who has fianlly given up on the place after 2 years. In a nutshell, his family cannot face another Vancouver winter. His description: "It started raining in October, and it will stop sometime in May". He was shocked by the frequency of rain. Says it makes Manchester look like the Sahara!
I was amazed too, but he's not one to exagerate. Apparently, the exact location in town makes a big difference, and one you might want to look into. He said if he'd lived a couple of hours drive away in Victoria, it might have made a big difference.
Anyway, he's heading back to the UK.

Hi
Actually it would be a ferry ride from Vancouver unless you own an amphicar. There is less rain in Whiterock, than Vancouver, which has less than N. Vancouver. Liverpool Ave. 30.76 inches/per year Vancouver 43.98.

Saskatoon has one of the highest crime rates (including murder) in Canada; yet the worst crime my girlfriend has suffered in the years she's lived here is a broken car window. On the other hand, if you hang around the worst parts of town at night looking for drug dealers, you might find much worse.
So an awful lot depends on where exactly you live; just because a city has a high crime rate doesn't mean that there'll be a lot of crime where you are. The only crime that seems to occur around where we live is people stealing construction supplies because the developers leave them lying out in the open all night with no-one watching them.

Well, lived here for about 18 months in total and have not, as yet, suffered any vicious gangland hits upon my person.
Got to love anecdotal internet evidence

Thanks anyway for the stats... I can see why he's leaving now. 50% (ish) more precipitation than Liverpool has to be pretty grim if you're not a fan of rain.
