Re: Vancouver's Finest Buildings
Not all of the pics are mine, I've collected them from various places on teh web over the years, as I'm a bit of a building buff and closet urban planner. i also tend to know a bit about teh history of the buildings here and the move away from East Hastings as downtown and the civic, cultural and economic base to the west side.
Vancouver has a great stock of older buildings, some loved cherished, others not so much so.
It is very exciting that the city is moving east (where much of the older stock is located). Lots of buildings on the east side are getting the attention they deserve: Maple Leaf Square, the Paris Block, Ralph Block, Wang Sang building, London Hotel, Woodwards etc.

The details on the Marine building are impressive. The walls of the main entrance hall are also worth looking at.

office buildings # 1
Vancouver's CBD has more than a few throw backs from the turn of the last centruy and many examples of the art deco period:
The first is the old stock exchange building, second i believe is the rodgers building and the third a real beaut, the credit foncier building

flat irons # 2
these are all modern buildings in the gastown area with an obvious nod to the classic flat irons of the area, very contrary to modern glass towers thrown up all other the place:
the first is woodwards and the others are the van horne and its sister building

Yaletown - prtentious and full of well healed hippsters, an old warehouse district convereted into lofts and highend stores, hate it or love it, amazing to see what can be done with derelict warehouses:
Note the raised patios where trucks used to back in for access to the loading bays of the warehouses

I am always surprised when vistors wander around the city core and proclaim, there is nothing but glass shiny towers in Vancouver.
