Hello Everyone,
If everything goes well myself and my wife should be in Vancouver by the end of August 2007.
I was wondering what C$900-C$1200 would get us as we will be renting. Also can you suggest areas not to live in as we currently live in Hackney, London (U.K) and want to avoid Junkies and Crackheads breaking in. I realise that Vancouver does have its fair share of Junkies.
Thanks a lot in advance
Richard

It can get you anything from a 500 sq ft box in downtown Vancouver to a whole house in one of the suburbs. Check out the link for an idea:

Just a point to note - unlike the UK, most places are unfurnished. If you're looking for furnished they tend to be set up for short-term, and will usually include all furniture (right down to TV, kitchen utensils etc), and utility bills.
For an unfurnished place close to downtown $1200 will get you a 1 or maybe 2 bdrm place in Kits, false creek, west end, or north shore, or a box in yaletown / coal harbour.
If you head for East Van or the surbs then you'll get more bang for ya buck.

What sort of lifestyle are you looking for? Are you in need of a one or two bedroom? Looking for an apartment, house, or condo type setting? Depending on the area and style, prices can range drastically.
You can find places downtown anywhere from $900 up to $2000 (or more)
Id personally avoid the Hastings/Chinatown area - can be very dodgy, especially at night...same as downtown Granville street and gastown area (which are fine during the day) - its just mostly people asking you for money
The west end is quite nice, Kits has some nice character style houses, which are quite funky but pricey. Nice shops and restaurants around that area, and you are close to kits beach which is great for summer. Prices can be about $800 to $1300.
Cambie, Oak and Granville Street have some nice places in that area and are all easily accessable to downtown via bus.
Commerical Drive area (east end) is usually cheaper. Also known as 'little italy'. Lots of coffee shops and italian restaurants. A bit hippyish.
If you're not too fussed with being right in the heart of Vancouver, there are other places like North Vancouver, Burnaby New Westminister.
Hope any of this helps ya
