Vancouver real estate now 9.3 times incomes

Sustainable?

The mal-investment in non-productive assets that counts as growth continues apace. Nice work governments!

The data is skewed because it only considers Vancouver. It is a bit like looking at London property prices and only considering The City. More useful data would be median house prices and median incomes in Metro Vancouver. Year on year data would be interesting as well.

That said, 'tis bloody expensive.

Point taken, but as a headline figure it is very alarming. Rental yields must be non-existent for some parts of Vancouver with these prices.

Haha - i haven't really started looking yet - only at the checking out mls stage. Am going to away in feb, so will start seriously looking when I get back in march, although by then I reckon all I'll be able to afford is a garden shed. And even that will be a fixer-upper....

I believe the gentleman would seriously consider that (personally I think you're paying $3.14 too much BUT what ever you think)

Maybe I did get caught up in the hysteria; comes from not wanting to miss the boat.

on a serious note.......................... (and I'm sure you know this)................ IF you're going to buy, decide on the area THEN find your (almost) ideal home.

Our current tentative thinking is North Van - it's relatively more affordable than say west van or kits and still within striking distance of town (the only downside is it's where dboy lives;)). Not really sure about further out as I really hate commuting (my 10 min walk to work right now is priceless) and I'm not sure that I'd like the reality of living somewhere such as maple ridge or coquitlam.

Yeah I know what you mean about the convenience aspects (living where we are now has been GREAT), something I'm going to be giving up VERY soon BUT we have found the 'village' we want to be in as we start our next adventure and possibly have been fortunate enough to find one of the best (for us) houses in the village was for sale. (and I'll still be able to walk to 'work' if things go to plan)

Provides an interesting (and I would say accurate if a little scathing) commentary.
