Does anybody know if when you get passport requests (expecting them anytime ) that you need to have a certain amount of time on them in order to obtain PR? i have searched and searched for 2 days now trying to find this info as I thought that I have read in past that you do but I can't find anything now

Based on my experience of getting an FSW visa there isn't a min time you need left on the passport, BUT our visas were valid to the earlier of 1 year from the date of our medicals or the passport expiry date. Thus if youe passport is due to expire very soon it may shorten the validity of your visa.

As far as Canada is concerned a valid passport is valid until the day it expires.
If you were applying at a POE for a 2 yr TWP and only had 9 months left in the passport then you are only getting a 9 month TWP.
If wanting to visit for 6 months and only 3 months left then you will only get 3 months.
Its pretty simple when you look at it.
