Default URL for Alberta driver licencing?

From what I have read here and on the British High Commission's website, Alberta will do a driving licence exchange for a UK licence without the need for a road test. However, the Alberta driving licence website ( http://www3.gov.ab.ca/gs/services/mv...peratorLicence ) suggests that only licences from Canada, United States, Germany, Austria, Japan, Korea and Switzerland can be exchanged.

Have the rules changed again? Is the website out of date? Or am I looking in completely the wrong place for this information?

Yes.

Rabrol is living proof that you can exchange a UK driver's licence for an Alberta one. See his essay.

Cheers Judy.

Do you know when the essay was posted (sorry, I haven't been around for a while)? I know people have done it previously (as recently as December 2005) but there was no date on Rabrol's essay. Things can seem to change at a whim when you are looking on from afar

Wish we could get a date on that essay...

I have scoured a bit, and all Alberta info I can come across does not mention the UK in the list of countries. It all appears to be updated too from what I can tell.

Here is a couple of spots to send your question with Online Info Request Forms:

Alberta Motor Association

With this first one, they quote member # as a field, but it is not required...and I am sure they will assist you as much as possible.

Govt. of Alberta

With the 2nd one, choose 'Registries' at the 'Subject Area' dropdown menu to ensure that you get the right department.

Best of luck!

Rabrol exchanged his licence in early December 2005, as he stated in this thread.

As far as I am aware, you take your license to Alberta's version of our DVLA (whatevet that is called?) and do a straight swop over, its only a HGV or PSV License that you will have to do a road test for.

yes you can exchange your british licence for an alberta one but only a car licence, my husband changed his a couple of months ago and had a uk bike licence as well as a car one, the registry would only give him an Alberta class 5 licence (cars only). Hope this helps.

We exchanged ours in Alberta in October ... we did have to argue with the clerks though as they didn't know the new exchange was possible (since May 2005). We just had to insist until they looked it up!

You just walk into any "registry", with suitable ID, and pays your money!

The agreement came in April 2005, it was the day I did my test.
We also know someone else that has just last week exchanged their licence.
