Yes, still okay on Firefox. In my case I just need to select watch in HD on BBC and then play it.

Just finished the three part From There to Here.

I've very happy with the reliable streaming sites backed up by iPlayers and occasional live stuff.

I just wish I could save the $100 a month to Shaw but it seems there's enough on TV for the others in the house to miss it.

Three generations want to watch So you think you can dancing with the stars ;), eat st, NatGeo, all the 'chef' stuff, Joan Rivers' Fashion Police, Ninja something or other, real life ER or whatever it's called......

I could probably take away the football and save about $20. But if it's still costing $80 then the extra $20 is worth it for the convenience of choice, bigger screen and ease of changing from from one game to another compared to watching on-line.

Since BBC updated their site to that very non user friendly new iplayer site I struggle with buffering and spinning wheel of shyte. Cant download with expat shield to the desktop player either. Very annoying!

I've not noticed any change other than having to select watch in HD for the catch up stuff.

Watching live BBC on their site has always had regular interruptions for me. Very short ones about 5 seconds but regular enough to be annoying.

It's particularly noticeable with the world cup. I put ITV on and it's perfect. Once the on-line ad is out of the way it's just like watching telly. But a BBC match has so many interruptions I just watch the stream on wiziwig or something instead.

It's all very well having the WC on CBC but it's not good coverage. All those complaining about ITV coverage back in the UK should see CBC coverage of it to appreciate what they've got.

Ive had no complaints about the CBC coverage so far unless you are of course referring to the pundits or commentators. True Im watching on cable but I can always turn the sound down and have a stable picture than relying on a computer stream which may or may not be as good.
Also turning down the sound Im not subjected to the Ingurland Ingurland chants or the English band playing the Great Escape theme :lol:

I use expat shield to watch UK TV from time to time. I haven't been able to access BBC for about a month, but I can still get ITV! Is anybody else experiencing this? It says you have to be in the Country to watch iplayer - but I thought that was the whole point of expat shield - to shield you!

Yes. I quite like Craig Forest and maybe the old geezer's not on this time, but give me ITV and BBC any day.

And the commentators - I assume it's John Helm and the others - are the official ones. FIFA puppets who never have an opinion about anything controversial.


But ITV is perfect and probably more reliable than satellite.

For the England matches I'll do what I did Saturday. Take myself off upstairs so I can shout and moan watching the TV :lol: but take the laptop with me for build up, half time etc.
Funny thing, I'm never really aware of the band. Especially watching Portugal v Germany. :rofl:

I've seen a couple of Expat Shield 'problem' threads over the last few weeks. I never had success with it myself.

Someone had a theory BBC is using something that detects the cloaking device but MediaHint still gets you in. And there's something else supposedly like mediahint too. Hola.

Here is what I do and it's amazing!!!

You will need:
HDTV
HDMI cable
Apple TV or alike for streaming
Fast router that can handle lots of on-demand video ( get Thomson from teksavvy)
Ipad
UK iTunes account
Canadian iTunes account (optional)
A membership with unblockus.com for 4.99 a month.

Put it all together in a nice tower.
With UK iTunes, download BBC I player and any other app you fancy.. 4oD etc.
With Apple TV and unblockus you can watch Netflix UK. It's worth it!
With the iPad, you can stream to your TV anything from the UK via the apps you now have on your iPad from the UK iTunes Store.

You can also jailbreak your Apple TV to put BBC Iplayer and such directly on the drive but you need to know what you're doing and how to stay on top of it for updates.

By the way, we are leaving Canada this summer and selling all what is listed above as a package ready to go including external digital antenna for all the Canadian channels (that we never watched).

From what i know you cant, you can try and use a proxy IP but that just works for web browsers and not very well from what i have seen, most online TV that you can get in the UK you need to download software or install plug-ins on your browser and it is those plug-ins and software programs that identify your location.

PS if you have a TV licence with the BBC i think you can access BBC content using your licence, but i am not 100% sure about that, check it out.

Dick Howard is the 'old geezer' and I'm thankful he isn't on. Lloyd Barker is doing half time stuff and he is OK. Ditto for Craig Forrest. I seem to recall that Darren Anderton was doing pre/half time/post game summary for euro 2012 but he isn't there now.

Yes it is John Helm and it is very middle of the road commentary...but thankfully we get to avoid the jingoistic drivel of Ian Wright and no Phil Neville expert punditry.

To be honest, for a country with no participation we do quite well.

Best goals of the tournament...Van Persie's header and the game winner for Switzerland.

Here's our setup.

1) subscription for DNS via unotelly, programmed into our wireless router

2) desktop computer plugged into television with HDMI

3) wireless mouse/keyboard

So basically our television acts like a giant screen for the desktop, and we just navigate it using a wireless mouse and keyboard. The unotelly DNS server means we have all our media connections spoofed. If I go to anything BBC, including iPlayer, BBC News, etc, it thinks I'm in the UK. If I go to ITV, it thinks I'm in the UK. If I go to Netflix, it thinks I'm in the US. If I go to CBS, it thinks I'm in the US. If I go to Hulu, it thinks I'm in the US. If I go to CBC, it doesn't do anything so I show up as in Canada.

$40 for the year, works exceptionally well. The DNS settings are also built right into the router, so any device behind the router - laptops, tablets, computers, phones, etc - all work automatically. I can log into Netflix on any device behind the router, and it sets the country appropriately, so there's no need to "turn on" anything to get a connection or whatever.

I use a HTPC with OpenELEC. Within XBMC I can then install the BBC iPlayer plugin which allows me to watch iPlayer feeds using my UK proxy server (I have a site-to-site VPN between my US IP and my UK shell account) and if I want to watch BBC live streams then I can either route the traffic via GRE IPsec or use a OpenVPN connection within OpenELEC/XBMC.

Works beautifully. Cost = $150 a year for my UK shell account.
