UK tax return
#1
I finally got around to opening my tax return (my bad I know). Because of my occupation I have to file a paper copy which I had planned to do when back in the UK next week. I was in employment in the UK up until July 18th last year, I'm assuming I still need to fill in income pages, but they didn't include them. Does anyone know a good tax person who could help/ I could pay in the Vancouver area?

Did you fill out a P85 form when you left?
If you have uncomplicated tax affairs in the UK, then dealing with UK tax after emigration usually isn't complicated either.
It might be a challenge to find a good UK tax professional in Vancouver. It might be cheaper/easier to choose one in the UK, and just use phone/email.

I'm not sure if I can help as myself and my OH did it online but we still have a property in the UK so had to do a tax return for the UK. It seemed to be relatively easy and we got only back so must have done it right. If any pages are missing then I found giving HRMC a quick call is all that is needed and they will get docs posted out to you.

All I need to declare is three months earnings. They sent me some complicated form all about remittances. I let them know I was leaving and they were quick enough to come after me for an obvious underpayment of tax. I'll download an employment form from their website. I'm in the UK next week so will try and ring them....

Is that the Foreign form? I think you have to tick some box on there for split-year payments, or something like that... you'll probably also have to work out if you're resident or non-resident, and ordinarily resident and all that other stuff they ask about on there.

I knuckled down last night and got it sorted. As I wasn't working in Canada it made it much easier!!
