Default UK Penalty Points

Hi Guys,

Has anymore moving from the Uk had any problems swapping their UK driving licence with 6 penalty points on for an Ontario 'G' driving licence. Any answer would be appreciated.

Regards,

Michael

We landed in Ottawa, OH had 6 points for two speeding offences, they disappeared without a trace when we traded our licences! Nice!

I noticed you can now buy "Speed camera atlases" in the UK. I seem to remember Blackburn and Blackpool have become one giant speed camera blob.

Hi,

My husband is trying to get over to Canada on PNP but has 6 points onhis licence (which will come off in Feb 08). Do you think this will be a problem?

Depends on what the points are for. Speeding, not likely, drunk driving, yes.

A word of caution, the UK points computer isn't connected to Ontario's points computer but the ones in most US states are. Points and road tolls will find their way to you in Canada. It's a bitch to be fined on the spot by some agreeable cop in the US, think that's the end of it, and then find that the offence incurred points in Canada based on the number of miles over.

Once you have a Canadian license it's better to do your high speed driving in the UK.

Raine, has your accent metamorphed into a strange scot-canadian mix?

My 3 points went into the ether as well.

Even better - I picked up a speeding ticket the week before emigrating... I brought the paperwork over with me, traded in my UK license then wrote back to the DLVA with a cheque and apologies as I "no longer held" a UK license.

They sent my cheque back to me with a letter thanking me for my offer and telling me not to do it again!
