If both parents and siblings are british, living in canada on TWP and not sure about getting canadian citizenship, is it advisable to get the newborn a canadian passport?
also, child doesn't lose the ability to apply for british passport later if needed right? both parents are naturalised british citizens, so if i understand correctly, the child is automatically a british citizen as well as canadian.
Thanks

Baby is a Canadian citizen unless the parents are in Canada as foreign diplomats. You should get the baby a Canadian passport if you are planning to stay in Canada for the foreseeable future. This will make travelling in and out of Canada easier - especially if travelling to the US. See if you may be a citizen - Canada.ca
The baby is also likely a British citizen by descent but you can check here: Apply for citizenship if you have a British parent: You were born on or after 1 July 2006 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Note that UK foreign birth registration is NOT available to British citizens born in Canada: Register a birth abroad - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Baby doesn't need a British passport as (s)he can enter the UK on a Canadian passport but, again, it's easier to enter the UK on a British passport.
Baby can hold Canadian and British passports at the same time. Getting just one passport does not affect the ability to get the other one later.

Many Thanks for the details. As part of the canada passport form, and proof of canadian citizenship, there is one condition listed where they say birth certificate is not enough unless parent/s have PR or citizenship. Can you clarify this only applies for the diplomats, otherwise parents on work permit are good with just baby's birth certificate?
