Is there any ex UK paramedics working in Toronto or GTA that can offer advice on the chances of getting a job as the profession does not appear on the skills shortage list, looking to move there in the next 24 months.
Thanks

Some have done it but remember the UK paramedic usually gets you in at PCP level and then you have to fight to get ACP level but the UK para is short certail skills.
It is possible but dealing with MOHLTC is a nightmare. Truly it will drive you close to suidcide or homicide depending on your level of aggressiveness
Also look at how many PCPs are applying for the part time spots in Ontario let alone GTA area and TO then you get an idea of the competition. A friend applied for a post and there were 650 appicants for 3 part time spots. These are all people who are ticketed and most have some experience as well in Ontario.
There are several hurdles but as I say there are some out there. I know more who have done it in NB, AB, or BC. Ontario is swamped at the moment with unemployed medics of all levels.
If you want to chat more PM me Cheers UKCANUCK

Most paramedics do a 2 year provincial college program. It may have turned to three years by now (everything is constantly being inflated). I know that there is a LOT of competition. My last ambulance ride was accompanied by a paramedic who also had a four-year nursing degree. 4 year degree + 2 years college = 6 years of education.
That being said, I think they are hiring in my city (Ottawa, Ontario) but you had better speak French in addition to English, sadly.
Good luck! Jobs are tough here. You may have a better chance looking at underpopulated areas as a way of getting 'in'. There are also 'northern allowances' for working up north. But then -- you are up north!
